There are a lot of travelling gnomes which travel around the globe. Most of them find their origin in the travelling gnome prank. Although the travelling gnome prank and the travelling gnomes sites both have the same subject, travelling (garden) gnomes, there is a big difference. The travelling gnome prank is a popular method of returning a stolen garden gnome “to the wild” or to let a borrowed garden gnome travel while sending post cards and photo’s with proof of the travel destination to the gnome owner.
The travelling gnomes are gnomes which travel from person A to B and from B to C etcetera. While the webmasters have no influence on the travel route of the gnomes. Or gnomes which travel on invitation with people who go on a holiday.
Travelling gnome websites have different goals, for example; http://gnomediaries.com lets gnomes travel to spread a message to the world. People who meet a gnomediaries gnome are encouraged to post an article on the gnomediaries site in which they explain what they do about climate change. http://www.travellinggnome.net and http://punagnome.com let their gnome travel on invitation. While Jerome [1] travels with people who take Jerome on their holiday, Bud [2] the Self-proclaimed "Official Gnome Ambassador of Puna Hawaii" along with his traveling tiki pal, Tiki Jr. travel on invitation.
All mentioned sites collect photos of their travelling gnome on their website. These sites are great fun for visitors because every time the visitor returns, the gnome has been on a different place on our globe. The http://gnomar.com website collects photographs of different traveling gnomes, in addition to the ones taken themselves.
