Travelcard Zones 7-9
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Travelcard Zones 7-9 (previously Travelcard Zones A-D) are ancillary zones of the Travelcard scheme managed by Transport for London.

[edit] Scope
The zones extend from the outer boundary of Greater London to the north west into Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire and, unlike zones 1 to 6, do not form a complete ring around London.[1] They currently include eight London Underground stations on the Metropolitan Line and the London Overground stations which are outside Greater London and not within the principal zones 1-6. Watford Junction is not included in the zonal scheme.
[edit] History
Until the late 1990s some stations at the far eastern end of the Central Line were also in Zones A and B (the last station in Zone 6 was Loughton) with Epping being in Zone B and (prior to their closure in 1994) North Weald and Ongar being in Zones C and D respectively. However since then Zone 6 has been extended as far as Epping, now the end of the line.
On 2 January 2008 zones A-D were replaced by new zones numbered 7-9[2].
[edit] Zonal fares
There are two types of fares available for rail travellers in Zone 7: Travelcard (paper tickets) and Oyster pay as you go; Oyster card can also hold Travelcards at the regular Travelcard price. Oyster pay as you go is based on distance and time of travel whilst Travelcard fares only deal with the zones travelled. The fares for travelling to a zone from Zone 7 are as follows:
Zone 1 | Zone 2 | Zone 3 | Zone 4 | Zone 5 | Zone 6 | Zone 7 | Zone 8 | Zone 9 | |
