[edit] Origins
Travel to Teach was originally started as a way to provide volunteers with opportunities to work and teach abroad. The organization was founded in 2002 by Kerstin Ahlzen as an English teaching program in the town of Nong Khai in Northeast Thailand. Teaching English as a foreign language is a main focus of Travel to Teach, however their projects have since expanded to include human rights work, environmental conservation, medical training and community development in several other countries around the world.
[edit] Mission
Travel to Teach's mission is as follows:
- Provide valuable opportunities for our volunteers to work abroad.
- Ensure genuine experiences of different cultures at a cost that most travelers can afford.
- Provide assistance and support in poorer parts of the world
[edit] International Programs
Past Travel to Teach volunteers and partnerships with existing volunteer organizations in other countries outside of Thailand have expanded Travel to Teach's range of programs. To date Travel to teach offers volunteer vacations in a range of fields in the following countries; Bali, Cambodia, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nepal, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Volunteers have to be at least 18 years old to apply and both home stay and communal living arrangements are available in most locations.
