Travelworm Incorporated was founded in 1993 by Brad Brownstein as a company that aimed to provide assistance to travelers who were making the drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. The company’s original name was Best Reservations, Inc. From 1993 – 1997 Best Reservations’ primary marketing tools were advertisements placed in relevant newspapers, telephone directories, travel trade shows and the development of a vast network of travel agents that utilized Best Reservations / Travelworm to book hotel rooms in Las Vegas, Laughlin and Reno at discounted rates. Its staff functioned mainly as telephone reservations agents.
One of the early pioneers on the internet Best Reservations launched its first website, LasVegasRes.Com, in August, 1995. At that time the internet was still in its infancy and even Yahoo! had only been around for little more than 6 months. Though the early website was used primarily to offer information and to generate calls to its offices, the landscape of how travel reservations were booked was about to undergo a major paradigm shift.
The company was quick to realize its potential however, and expanded into the internet with full online booking capabilities in 1997. As more travelers turned online to make their reservations a more powerful brand identity, conducive to the Internet was needed resulting in the well known Travelworm that was launched in 1999, followed by JetAway, a few years later.
From being a provider of travel solely between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the company has grown to carve a name for itself in a relatively large niche market of leisure and casino travelers, as well as travelers looking for alternative package tours. It now supplies its clients with travel deals to hundreds of destinations in Nevada, California, Florida, Hawaii, and elsewhere around the country.
Travelworm works by dynamically contracting room blocks with major hotel and resort properties nationwide. It also supplies car rentals, flights, tour reservations, travel packages, and tickets to shows, parks, etc. Travelworm averages a couple of thousand bookings a week, and sells approximately 500,000 rooms a year. It has posted triple digit growth rates in recent years, employs around 70 people, and is supported by an on-site call center.
Travelworm was acquired by Wasserstein Ventures and Cedar Street Group in 2004. The executive management experience and resources that were provided by the Wasserstein and Cedar Street Group allowed Travelworm to continue its growth. The company will be celebrating 15 years in business in 2008. After the acquisition, Bradley Brownstein departed from the company to pursue other interests. In 2007, Mr. Brownstein founded Prescription Strength Marketing. Prescription Strength Marketing focuses on providing search engine marketing consultation and management programs for service businesses primarily within the education, medical, financial and professional service sectors.
Travelworm’s current president is Jay Rein, who took the role in 2008. He is responsible for the management of the company’s day-to-day operations. He also oversees TravelWorm’s continued growth, and directs the company’s entry into new and emerging markets. Before advancing to this new position at TravelWorm, Mr. Rein was the Vice President of E-commerce at Worldspan by Travelport, a global leader in the web-based travel industry, providing travel technologies and services to thousands of travel agencies and suppliers. During Mr. Rein’s tenure at Worldspan, he advanced Worldspan’s market leadership in providing global travel distribution, transaction processing services and IT solutions to online travel retailers around the world.
