Tramp (nightclub)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tramp is a private, members-only nightclub located on Jermyn Street in central London. Founded in 1969 by Johnny Gold with business partner Oscar Lerman, Tramp is considered to be one of the most exclusive member's clubs in the world and is a regular haunt for celebrities.[1]

Over its 35+ years of existence, the fashionable nightclub has been frequented by celebrities and socialites including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Joan Collins, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, Rod Stewart, Michael Caine, Sarah Ferguson, Elizabeth Hurley, Elton John, Princess Anne, Jerry Hall, Prince Rainier, David and Simon Reuben, Sir Philip Green, Muhammad Ali, John Wayne, Tom Jones, Prince, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lady Victoria Harvey, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Roger Moore, Peter Stringfellow, Jane Asher, Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Jade Goody, Robbie Williams and, more recently, the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton and Paris Hilton.[2]

Peter Sellers, Joan Collins, Liza Minnelli and Ringo Starr have all had their wedding receptions at the glitzy club. Infamous stories that took place under the Tramp chandeliers include a young Shirley MacLaine falling asleep on top of a table overnight, The Who's Keith Moon dancing barenaked on the dancefloor, comedian Mel Brooks getting on all fours and running around under the tables barking like a dog, and the night when a just-acquitted O.J. Simpson walked in for a drink.

Tramp's Gold, a book about the world famous club written by Johnny Gold himself and with a foreword from pal Michael Caine, was published in 2001.
