From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trakai Peninsula Castle is in Trakai, Lithuania. The castle was built in the 14th century by Kęstutis, the Duke of Lithuania in the peninsula of the southern shore of Lake Galvė. The castle is undergoing restoration; some of the walls and towers remain. There is an exposition of sacred art, set up in the former chapel of a Dominican cloister, now forming a part of the castle's ensemble, which was established there in 1678 by the initiative of the Voivod of Trakai Marcjan Aleksander Ogiński. Sigismund Kęstutaitis was murdered in the castle on 20 March 1440.
