Traffic island

A traffic island can be a median strip, a strip in the middle of a road. It can also be a narrow strip between roads that intersect at an acute angle. Some traffic islands may serve as refuge islands for pedestrians.
In parts of the United Kingdom, the term island is used as a synonym for roundabout.
