[edit] Plot summary

As in the other books in the series, the reader is portrayed as the protagonist of the story, referred to in the present tense and by the second-person pronoun "you."

In this book, the protagonist is the great-grandson of Red Olsen, a famous explorer who discovered an island in the Arctic but vanished during his expedition. His rival, Evan Arthur Skagle, claimed credit for the discovery instead.

Now the protagonist decides to find out the truth about Red Olsen. But various obstacles stand in his way: Evan Arthur Skagle IV, Skagle's great-grandson; Sidney Granger, a collector of black market art; and the inhospitable Arctic environment.
