Talk:Tracy McGrady
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] How tall is Tracy McGrady?
He's listed as 6'8" but is commonly refered to as much taller than that. For instance: [1] T-mac is clearly taller than Stromile Swift (6'9"). This implies that T-mac is closer to 6'10", not 6'8".—Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.210.160.2 (talk • contribs) 22:51, October 8, 2005
- He is probably closer to 6'9 but listed at 6'8 but. It is true he might be taller or the same height as Swift but they also exaggerate Swift at a half inch to an inch taller than his actual height. Also, while with the Rockets, McGrady increased his muscle mass and weighed in at 225.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.79.222.9 (talk • contribs) 15:47, November 17, 2005
- In the picture, [2], I think that the angle had an influence - it didn't look very straight. Also, you don't know the situation at the time; like, was Stromile slumping? You couldn't even see their feet so you could also say that T-mac may have been tip-toe-ing.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Virgofenix (talk • contribs) 18:38, January 9, 2006
- Actually Swift is 6-9 1/2 barefoot.
- This should pretty much prove T-Mac is 6-10
- Just read this web page

I have a picture of Tracy with Vince Carter from about 2 weeks ago and they look almost the same exact height. Tracy is about 6'6. If he is 6'8 than hShaq is 7'3 and if he is 6'10 Shaq is 7'5 so 6'10 isnt even close. Here is the picture with 6'6 Vince Carter and they are right next to eachother. http://www.nba.com/media/TMaccarter_400_070309.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 19:32, March 19, 2007
- The pic doesn't show the full bodies. T-Mac is already slouching while VC is standing upright. We can't see if T-Mac's knees are bent too. So from this pic I won't say 100% they are the same height. If the NBA says he is 6'8", why are we disagreeing??? Chensiyuan 01:29, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh yeah I forgot NBA heights are always accurate!!! Like Barkley being listed at 6ft6 and Ewing being listed at 7 feet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 21:37, March 19, 2007
- I won't say they are always accurate. But they present a default accurate position. If you can find a reliable source that contradicts the NBA figure, then present it. Very simple methodology. Chensiyuan 02:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ok fair enough I'll look for his pre-draft measurement again. That has him at 6'6.5 he looks to be a half inch taller than VC. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 21:54, March 19, 2007
- Just to the prove a point here he is with Vince Carter again who is 6'5.5 http://www.nba.com/media/magic/mcgrady_carter_011030.jpg Obviously he is 6'6.5 max and not 6'9-6'10. There are many more which McGrady at around the same in comparison to Carter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 11:25, March 20, 2007
- i mean, you do realise these pictures are not entirely conclusive right. the science behind perspective calculations is not my realm, but even if you can hazard a good guess it still remains a guess. i think if you ask around most other wikipedia editors would really settle the issue with an official source. i know what you're saying with the picts, but they don't break the deadlock. - LOL Tracy was measured at 6'6 1/4 pre-draft and the pictures with Vince Carter prove it. He is not much taller than teammate Chuck Hayes who is 6'5 1/4 barefoot and he was pretty much the same height as Matt Hapring and Gordan Giricek when the Jazz played the Rockets. He is 6'7 1/2 in his shoes rounded to his NBA listing of 6'8...that is not strange that is the exact same thing they did with Carmelo Anthony. Josh Howard and Caron Butler are both 6'5 1/4 barefoot and 6'6 1/2 in shoes rounded to the NBA listing of 6'7. RandyRhoadsRonnieDio

People, you must realize that when they measured T-Mac during pre-draft, he was less then 21 years old. Get it? He continued to grow taller. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.251.177.243 (talk • contribs) 00:58, July 2, 2007
- No, he is 2.03 (6,8) Tim Duncan or Alonzo Mourning is about 6,10 and T-Mac is clearly much shorter Tracy Mcgrady (Verson 2.0) 03:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

- Mcgrady is probably from 6'6" to 6'7" and no way he is going to be 6'10". From this image, [3], we can see Carter(6'6") is about the same height as Mcgrady. Brave warrior 20:11, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- On the 07-08 Topps basketball card of T-Mac, it says he's 6'8. On NBA.com, it also says he's 6'8. So just taking a wild guess, I'd say he's 6'8. Basketball110 (talk) 05:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's McGrady's Real Weight?
I've seen different weight numbers for T-Mac from 210-234, does anyone know for sure? Has there been an updated weigh-in? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omershahab (talk • contribs) 12:13, July 1, 2006
- The last official weigh in listing is 223, however he recently said in an interview with The Houston Chronicle that he now weighs 235. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.134.225.200 (talk • contribs) 00:41, July 31, 2006
- The 07-08 Topps basketball card of T-Mac says 210. NBA.com says 223. Basketball110 (talk) 05:16, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Relationship to Vince Carter
tracy mcgrady and vince carter are NOT second cousins, but THIRD cousins. In order to be SECOND cousins, they have to have the same great grandmother. Since their grandmothers are cousins, it means that they have the same great-great grandparents. That makes them THIRD cousins —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.233.77.99 (talk • contribs) 20:02, February 12, 2007
- Thanks for clearing this up, I was wondering about the exact relationship. I just went with second cousin since I saw it somewhere. However, a lot of times on TV and such when T-Mac is playin Carter the commentators just say "cousins" so a lot of people think they are first cousins. {{subst:unsigned Omershahab|17:02, March 11, 2007}}
- it seems some moron put SECOND COUSIN again....morons these days —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.8.211.10 (talk • contribs) 03:44, April 5, 2007
- well it seems that the moron struck again, as "second cousins" is back on the page. a genealogical tree would be usefull to clear things up. M du P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.11.34.57 (talk • contribs) 11:23, May 1, 2007
- A family tree would be useful. Does anyone know how to make one? And does anyone have the names of their mothers and grandmothers? Basketball110 (talk) 20:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Plz People
I made the page so nice with the allstars records, partnership with addida and NBA live 07 Cover with pictures now they say i copy paste. PLZ SOMEBODY MAKE THIS PAGE BETTER WITH THE INFO I MENTIONED —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.95.35.189 (talk • contribs) 15:26, February 19, 2007

[edit] adidas
um yeah whoever wrote that its like already at the bottom and the 13 in 35 is kind of sloppy, those 2 sections seem written by a 10 year old —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.25.59.110 (talk • contribs) 16:45, April 7, 2007
[edit] This page needs to be restructured/rewritten
I'm thinking that there definitely needs to be more coherence in general for this page. It's gotten kind of sloppy. People should be thinking about major revisions here. YanShen 07:58, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Cool picture
This picture would be cool to put in the section about his Houston career considering him and yao are considered a very good duo.

[edit] Really bad page
This used to be a good page and now osmone deleted the trivia section and added this dumb adidas section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.25.59.110 (talk • contribs) 22:19, April 17, 2007

[edit] Same thing over and over again
It says the same thing in "A New Start" as it does in "NBA Career" under "Toronto Raptors". If someone has information for his time as a Raptor, please add it. What about the Magic? Basketball110 (talk) 05:09, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Some suggestions
Just some style suggestions I had considering the layout of the article to make it easier to read.
- Highschool Career: merge?
-
- I'm thinking that merging Highschool career and early career would be a good idea, as they're both technically the same thing and don't really require their own sections when they could be in one.
- Career statistics, NBA career: tables?
-
- Putting these in tables would make them much more accessible, as right now they're a bit impenetrable due to their block-of-text-like nature.
- Miscellaneous facts: remove/integrate?
-
- Trivia sections like this are generally discouraged by guidelines. While they may be interesting, they don't really offer much pertinent information. I'd suggest trying to integrate them into the article without breaking up the flow; if that isn't possible, then removing them is a good idea.
That's all I can think of for now. I'll try to help out on what I can. Master of Puppets Care to share? 19:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pre-NBA
The Pre-NBA section talks about his time in Orlando WITH the NBA. Basketball110 (talk) 16:03, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Streaks...
Is it worth noting that he lost 19 games in a row in Orlando and has won 22 in a row in Houston? That's an interesting and unusual stat. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.91.65.56 (talk) 22:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
No, not in an individual sense it is not. If there were another person playing for the same teams as him during the same time, then he will also inherit the streak, much like saying in ice hockey that if I'm a defenseman with a +/- of 20 in ice hockey, if a right winger is always on the ice with me at the same time, his +/- rating would be identical to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.216.172.203 (talk) 22:50, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
