[edit] Candidates for November 2007
[edit] Image:SP 8033 19921006 IL Eola.jpg
Yes, this is an image that I created (which is another reason I'm bringing it here first before plopping it into the main slot). It shows the definition of a train and it is clear with good color at small resolutions. Slambo (Speak) 13:46, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for October 2007
[edit] Image:MagyarÁllamvasutak.V63-039.jpg
Good contrasting colors, the entire train is visible. Slambo (Speak) 16:21, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for February 2007
[edit] New BNSF ES44DC #7663 at Commerce, California on February 21, 2005.
I feel that this image accutately portrays to the rail transport community modern trains in the United States. The locomotive featured here is a member of the GE Evolution Series, GE's top of the line. It features regenerative braking, to meet the new EPA Emissions Standards.KG6YKN 21:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Multiple possible images
Okay, rather than listing each one individually, since it appears that I'm the only person who actively uses this page, here are six candidates from commons:
I'm inclined to use the sugar cane railway image since we've shown primarily standard gauge trains in the lead image so far. Slambo (Speak) 15:53, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Looking back at the archive, we used photos depicting the following:
- May-Dec 2005: US diesel powered freight train
- Jan 2006: Austrian electric passenger train
- Feb 2006: German electric passenger train
- March 2006: US steam passenger train
- April 2006: Indian steam passenger train
- May 2006: US electric passenger train
- June 2006: Japanese electric passenger train
- July 2006: British steam freight train
- So, if we're looking for diversity, then either of the two Australian images (showing diesel freight trains) would be near the top of the list. We've done four electric powered passenger trains in the last 8 images, and we've done US in three of the last 8. Slambo (Speak) 13:29, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for June, 2006
[edit] SenzanSen2005-5.jpg
There's a preponderance of green which draws the eye to the train. We haven't used an image from Asia in this section yet. Slambo (Speak) 16:32, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for May, 2006
[edit] Amtrak-nj-transit.jpg
Shows a complete Amtrak train. Good composition and lighting. Slambo (Speak) 14:32, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for April, 2006
[edit] Candidates for March, 2006
[edit] StrasburgRR 2004 0920Image0044.jpg
Good color, shows an entire train, highlights steam power. Slambo (Speak) 12:22, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem particularly striking, and for some reason I can't put my finger on it seems a little sort of vauge. Not a bad picture, but I'm not certain its the best we can do. The better of the two imho. Thryduulf 18:16, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] VW-Cargotram-Dresden.jpg
The structure in the background is a little distracting, but this is the first example I've seen of a tram designed for freight service. Very interesting image. Slambo (Speak) 15:13, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- A really interesting image, but not, imho, good enough to be the lead picture. The building takes up too much of the frame and kind of distracts from the tram. Thryduulf 18:16, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for February, 2006
[edit] WCML freight train.jpg
Good color, shows a complete train under catenary. Slambo (Speak) 12:24, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE Deutsche Bahn AG Maschen GFDL.JPG
Another electrified train, this one from Germany. The catenary is not so obtrusive, and the red train is easy to pick out from the scenery. Slambo (Speak) 12:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates for January, 2006
[edit] Oebb298205.jpg
An interesting image of something that isn't on the mainline. Slambo (Speak) 17:30, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Austria 1044 semmering.jpg
Good color and composition; an interesting image. Slambo (Speak) 17:23, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
