- 1959 – The Canadian National Railway line between St. Felicien and Chibougamau, Quebec, opens.
- 1967 – Canadian Pacific Railway moves the last of its equipment out of its Ottawa West yard to the new Walkley Yard.
- 1979 – Amtrak introduces double decker Superliner coaches on the Empire Builder passenger train.
- 1983 – The last GG1 in revenue service pulls its last train, New Jersey Transit train number 3323.
