- 1854 – The Brooklyn City Railroad, the oldest streetcar line in Brooklyn, New York, opens for passenger service.
- 1874 – The first revenue trains on the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad operate between Denver and Morrison, Colorado.
- 1884 – The first Dow Jones average, the predecessor of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, is published; of the eleven companies included in the average, nine of them are American railroads.[1]
- 1995 – The extension of Minsk Metro's Avtozavodskaya Line connecting Frunzenskaya to Pushkinskaya (pictured) opens.
