- 1868 – The Colorado and Clear Creek Railroad officially changes its name to Colorado Central Railroad.
- 1908 – Matthias N. Forney, American steam locomotive manufacturer, dies (b. 1835).
- 1911 – The 191st Street station on New York City Subway's IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line opens.
- 1940 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway discontinues the San Francisco-Los Angeles-Chicago Navajo (route map pictured).
