- 1859 – Charles Bowen-Cooke, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Western Railway 1909–1920, is born (d. 1920).
- 1951 – The San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway discontinues passenger train service.
- 1956 – The Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railway officially adopts its longtime nickname, Monon Railroad, as corporate title.
- 1994 – Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) begins operating over former MidSouth Rail Corporation tracks (previously spun off from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1986) following the recent merger of MidSouth into KCS.[1]
