- 1829 – Carrollton Viaduct, the first stone masonry bridge built for railroad use in the United States and the world's oldest railway bridge still in use, is opened for service.[1]
- 1896 – The Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway opens in Canada.[2]
- 2004 – Siemens receives an order to build 60 new ICE trainsets for service between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia; the new equipment is expected to enter service in 2007.
- 2004 KCR Ma On Shan Rail (pictured) opens in Hong Kong.
