Fair use rationale:

  1. "No free equivalent." -- there is no free equivalent for this book cover, as the book was published in 2006 and no cover versions have yet passed into the public domain.
  2. "Respect for commercial opportunities." -- the use of a book cover to illustrate the article does not diminish the commercial opportunities of the publisher, on the contrary, it probably helps.
  3. "Minimal use." -- This is the only picture for this book cover on the article, and is low-resolution enough that it could not easily be used for other purposes.
  4. "Previous publication. Non-free content has been published outside Wikipedia." -- Scans of this cover are widely available on eBay, Amazon, and B&N sites already.
  5. "Content. Non-free content meets general Wikipedia content requirements and is encyclopedic." -- This illustrates a notable book, thus is encyclopedic.
  6. "Media-specific policy. The material meets Wikipedia's media-specific policy." -- yes, per above.
  7. "One-article minimum. Non-free content is used in at least one article." -- This cover in the article Songs of the Stellar Winds
  8. "Significance. Non-free media is not used unless it contributes significantly to an article." -- This cover, as part of the book, is relevant to a fuller understanding of the novel.
  9. "Restrictions on location. Non-free content is used only in the article namespace." -- As of July 9 2007, this image is only used on Songs of the Stellar Winds.

In summary, this image passes all our non-free use guidelines. It is no bigger than necessary in the article it is in, it could not be replaced by a free image, and it is significant in its article.
