Triple Pole Single Throw (TPST) switch used to "park" a 3 phase Lakota (True North Power) wind turbine.

3 Phase 60 Amp knife switch used in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the "Switch Opening" reception of 2004 June 17th, for the Urbine project. This switch was selected, in part, because of its epistemological value, i.e. that its function is made visible by the open design in which we can see the handle that holds the three knife elements to switch them simultaneously.

[edit] Why ribbon cable was used

This picture is from the ribbon-cutting and switch opening ceremony for the rooftop urban beach opening, 2004 June 17th.

Various officials and political leaders attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and set the windmill into motion by cutting the ribbon.

The ribbon was a ribbon cable that shorted out all three phases of the windmill, wind turbine, stopping it from turning. Cutting the ribbon effectively opens the windmill brake switch, by removing the short.

[edit] Additional pictures of this switch, etc.

Additional pictures of this switch can be found in Switch opening and ribbon cutting ceremony.

The control box also has a switch on it to do the same function, i.e. when the switch is closed, the windmill is in the stopped (locked) position.
