Toyama Maru

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Toyama Maru was a 7,089-ton Japanese troop transport during World War II. On June 29, 1944, Toyama Maru was transporting over 6,000 men of the Japanese 44th Independent Mixed Brigade when she was torpedoed and sunk by the submarine USS Sturgeon. There were only about 600 survivors, making the sinking of the Toyama Maru one of the worst maritime disasters in history.
