Toukola
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toukola (Swedish: Majstad) is an area of Helsinki, around 4 km north of the town centre, at the port of Gammelstadsviken. Majstad is part of the administrative region of Gammelstaden.
The eldest part of the town consists mostly of wooden villas and small houses. Next to the sea, in later years, the new area of Arabianranta was built, with modern tower blocks. The population of Majstad is estimated to increase from 2500 to over 10,000.
In Majstad is the Arabia porcelain factory. Production has now moved, but the area is still known for design and art industry.
