Toucan is a free, open source file synchronization, backup and encryption tool for Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003/Vista, published by PortableApps.com. Toucan was written to be portable and to provide more advanced functions than the standard PortableApps.com utilities. Toucan is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License and can be downloaded from the official website for no charge.

Toucan includes four synchronization modes, copy, update, mirror, and equalize. 7zip is used to provide backup and two types of archive are supported, Zip and 7zip. Toucan has support for incremental archives, updating archives, complete backups and restoring existing archives. Encryption is provided using blowfish (BURP[1]) and rijndael (ccrypt[2]) It is currently available in seven different languages, English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Estonian[3][4]. There have been five release versions of Toucan to date[5][6] (1.1, 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.2.1.1, 1.2.2), with plans for a major rewrite for version 2.0[7]
