I have made significant changes to the article since the initial notice.

I have added a section of the significance of this group at this particular moment. It is the second incidence of a particular phenomenon - the banning of a gay/lesbian group from a US med school. This story is in the process of getting local, state and national media attention. the organization is in a current situation. The situation has an historical context. There is a high potential the outcome of the situation will establish legal precedent on future cases simliar to this one.

[edit] TruthPursuit: Inaccuracies found...please retract

Point of clarification...by the way, I am also a medical student at this school...the gay, lesbian, and bisexual medical students are NOT "barred" from meeting on the campus of Touro University-CA (private Jewish school). This is a gross misrepresentation of the facts and is purely a ploy to stir up emotions. These students have every right to meet with each other whenever they want to on campus. They are free to meet in classrooms that are not being used or saved, meet in the picnic areas, meet in or outside the library. They are not barred from the right to assemble. They just can't use Touro in their name nor can they receive student government funds...I fail to see where they are "barred" from meeting. Religious schools are private for a reason.

All of this hoopla smells of bruised egos and pride. Don't cry you're being denied rights...because you are not...then in the same breath demand that freedom of religion be trampled upon.

Your cause would be better served if those publicaly representing this club would be honest and less inflammatory.

[edit] Revisions

I have made appropriate corrections which were duly noted by TruthPursuit. She pointed out that the students of TUGSA are permitted to go to campus, as individuals.

To clarify, the actions of the administration of Touro University were taken against the Touro University Gay-Straight Alliance, an organization of students. The organization, TUGSA, was barred from campus and its charter was revoked. Individual members were not barred.

[edit] MoreTruth: Challenge to your revisions

No, your revisions are still unsatisfactory. I'm not the original poster, but wanted to chime in on this issue as well. Your article is still filled with inaccurate rhetoric.

Refer to the only existing media coverage available: TimesHerald article Dr. Church is clearly quoted stating that TUGSA, in whatever incarnation, remains welcome to hold its activities on campus. The suggestion that the group has been "barred" is, quite frankly, defamatory. In fact, the organization has been as "barred" as the softball team.

[edit] More Revisions =

Attempted to remove the first person, and neutralize tone. More revisions need to be made.

Additional sources have been added to the external links page. More information will be added in the coming days. The most up to date information can be found by doing a search of current news using any news search engine for the word "Touro."

All facts will be cited and sourced properly in the next week.

This statement is dated Sept 13, 2006.

=== Additional note in response to the use of the word "barred" from campus

The group in question is the "Touro University Gay-Straight Alliance." The group was specifically prohibited from using its own name, which included the phrase "Touro University." As stated in the Vallejo Time Herald Article cited by MoreTruth, Dr. Church is quoted as saying "The Gay-Straight Alliance group can post information on campus and hold activities there, but is restricted from using or referring to the university's name, he said." This Wikipedia article is not in reference to any group called "The Gay-Straight Alliance" group. This article is in reference to a group called specifically "Touro University Gay-Straight Alliance." By restricting the group from "using or referring to" the phrase "Touro Univserity" which is part of the group's name as clearly stated in the groups constitution as it was approved by the Dean of Students of Touro University and the Student Government Association of Touro University in September of 2002, the group is thereby for all intents and purposes effectively and literally barred from the campus of Touro University - Mare Island.
