Toromont Industries Ltd. (TSX: TIH) is an Industrial Machinery & Equipment Distribution company based in Concord, Ontario. The company operates through two business segments: The Equipment Group and the Compression Group. The Equipment Group includes one of the world’s largest Caterpillar dealerships in addition to rental operations. The Compression Group specializes in the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of compression systems for natural gas, fuel gas and carbon dioxide in addition to process systems and industrial and recreational refrigeration systems. Both groups also offer product support capabilities. Toromont Industries employs approximately 4,400 people in more than 115 locations.
The main Toromont plant is located at the southwest corner of Jane Street and Highway 7 in Vaughan. This location is mostly inside the core of the Vaughan Corporate Centre and therefore does not fit at all with the City of Vaughan's new plans for development. The plant is heavy industrial whereas the Vaughan Corporate Centre's plans call for small, low-rise office buildings and retail establishments, situated on small city-sized blocks. However, neither Toromont nor the City of Vaughan has publicly stated whether the plant will soon close down and/or be relocated.
