Tormented is Staind's first recording, self-released in 1996.
Previously only available in limited quantities in New England, Tormented has been re-released in response to overwhelming demand from fans at Staind.com. None of the music has been altered from its original state, and the only places available for purchase is from Staind.com[1] and amazon.com. Or they have it available for purchase at most of their live shows. Many of the songs on the album deal with pain, hate and depression, including a gun being loaded, cocked, and fired at the start and finish, which (along with the hidden track "The Funeral") make it something of a concept album revolving around a depressed individual who eventually commits suicide. The track "Come Again" was re-released with the CD single of "Right Here," the band's 2005 hit and Staind's 'Greatest Hits' album, released in 2006, it has also started being played at shows for the first time, along with "Break".

- When the album was released, friend and confidant Fred Durst reportedly burst into their dressing room before a show during their tour with Limp Bizkit, threw the album on the floor, and started screaming at them, offended by the cover art. Reportedly very religious at the time, he asked if they were a Satanic band.[citation needed]
- "Mudshuvel" was later re-recorded for the album "Dysfunction" as "Mudshovel".
