Torhout is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality only comprises the city of Torhout proper. On January 1, 2006 Torhout had a total population of 19,453. The total area is 45.23 km² which gives a population density of 430 inhabitants per km².

Torhout-Werchter was until the end of the last century one of the yearly largest pop festivals in Europe. Short lived efforts have been made to have a world music festival in Torhout after Torhout Werchter became Rock Werchter, held in Werchter only.
