Toren Smith
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toren Smith founded Studio Proteus with Adam Warren in 1986.[1] He is co-creator and writer of the first three graphic novel releases of the original English-language manga series The Dirty Pair drawn by Warren; Warren later took over both writing and art after Smith moved to other projects.[1] Smith first became interested in anime and manga after being introduced to it by a friend in 1982, and he learned Japanese by studying them.[1]
When Hayao Miyazaki was looking for someone to do the English translation of the NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind manga, he personally picked Smith after reading about his negative opinion of the English anime adaptation Warriors of the Wind.[2]
Smith has appeared at multiple anime conventions as a guest.[3][4]
