Toplum Postası
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toplum Postası Newspaper was established in 1976 as a bi-sheet newsletter and is now one of the most popular[citation needed] and widely read[citation needed] weekly Turkish language newspapers in London. The newspaper, which is written in both Turkish and English, is aimed at London's large Turkish-speaking diaspora that is estimated to number around 300,000 people and includes Cypriots, Turks and Kurds.
Toplum Postası was the first local newspaper designed to serve the Turkish speaking community in the United Kingdom. Since its establishment, Toplum Postası continued to grow, and has recently enlarged its distribution area. The newspaper, which distributes around 27,000 newspapers per week, is now available throughout the City Centre and the Northwest of London, as well as to the West Midlands[citation needed], Greater Manchester, and West Yorkshire.
Recently redesigned to give it a new image, the newspaper claims to target the young Turkish-speaking diaspora, the English section claims to cater for a mostly English-speaking second and third generation population. The newspaper also gives coverage to pertinent issues for the Turkish-speaking communities in the UK, such as asylum and detention. The newspaper was nominated for the annual [eporting Asylum, the London Press Awards by the London Assembly in 2006, where it was short-listed along with The Voice for the category of Reporting decision making, detention and deportation.
