[edit] History

Top Ryde shopping centre originally opened in 1965 as one of the first enclosed shopping centres in Sydney, alongside Roselands and Bondi Junction Plaza. After seeing target leave the centre in 2006 very little development occurred between inaugural opening and closure. Towards the end of the centre's life it was a dead mall featuring Woolworths, Franklins, a bowling alley and around 90 stores which were predominantly banks and service stores. The centre was situated over 2 floors. The lower level had direct access to the bottom carpark level and featured Woolworths and a small food court. It was connected to the upper level via a travelator. The upper level consisted a majority of the centre's stores including a Franklins and access to Blaxland Road and Devlin Street, as well as access to bus services. A smaller, third level which could be accessed via a staircase from the upper level and the rooftop carpark featured the popular bowling alley.

[edit] Staging

Stage 1 will open towards the end of 2009. It will consist of around 60 stores. This will be on the Blaxland Road side of the development. This is because construction is occurring where the below ground digging is occurring primarily on the Blaxland Road side and moving across, so whilst digging may be occurring midway between Blaxland Road and Pope Street, the first stage may be already up and running. Other stages will progressively open throughout 2010, each stage next to the previous moving progressively towards Pope Street. There will be an outdoor pedestrian strada that will run parallel to Devlin Street between Pope and Blaxland Roads. On the Devlin Street side of the strada will be outdoor laneways, cinemas carparking across all levels but ground, commercial and residential buildings. On the Turner Street side of the strada will be the indoor section of the centre which will consist of a majority of the shops including all major stores (excluding cinemas), and large sections of carpark on lower ground and rooftop levels.

[edit] Stores

According to signage placed at the construction site, the new shopping centre will include the following major retailers:
