Topix LLC has dropped the ".net" from their name, and now just goes by "Topix".67.160.229.49 07:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability

It is my belief that Topix.net is notable enough to remain on wikipedia. Here are just a few reasons:

  • Much like Digg, Topix.net is one of the leading innovators in the Web 2.0 sphere of influence. Notably it combines local news and ways for communities to communicate and comment on news in ways not before possible.
  • Topix is one of the most well-funded endeavors by print media to enter the online arena. Therefore, it can be seen as both a bell-weather and a notable topic of interest regarding the evolution of print journalism to online journalism.
  • Topix was recently a media sponsor of the Web 2.0 Summit. That is not something a non-notable company does.
  • Topix's content is increasingly based on its community of users, according to their blog they have over 400,000 unique users who have made more than 2.5 million posts. That sounds like a fairly notable online community.
  • Topix has generated controversy over their open forums system, most notably for comments by users over the Danish Cartoon Hooplah
  • Originally this article had more content that would have verified the notability of Topix, however a perhaps overzealous moderator immediately deleted it without any period for dispute, on the grounds that it was blatant advertising. Apparently one person's description of a company is another's "advertising".
