[edit] hot

It's hot in Topeka.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.179.67.144 (talk) 10:36, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] removed info

Removed "Theodore Rover, pet actor" from the notable natives as I could find no other reference to this animal anywhere. Jopgaard 01:54, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] capitol

I added a image of the Kansas State Capitol building. JeffreyAllen1975 20:17, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] charles sheldon

OK, I really need to do a Charles Sheldon page, but I'm lazy and simply included the external link for now. Sorry.

Rick

[edit] gordon parks

Pretty sure Gordon Parks is from Fort Scott, not Topeka.

[edit] highways

Highway 24 and Highway 40 are not "co-incident" between Topeka and Lawrence. (See map on page - 24 is north of river 40 is south of river)

Russ

You are of course, correct, 24 and 40 are co-incident east of LAWRENCE not east of Topeka. I fixed it. Rick Boatright 04:26, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] boring

Someone should write about how boring it was to grow up there. These kids today have it easier because of the internet-back in my day we were very isolated in topeka.

When did you grow up there? _I_ grew up in Topeka and it was anything but boring. What did you want? Boyles Joyland on summer evenings, the demolition derby out at Topeka Raceway Park on Saterday nights, The Santa Fe Band concerts, the Zoo, Billard pool in Gage Park, the best public library in the central US south of Minneapolis, Summer camp programs at the Parks and Rec shelters, Go Karts out near Lake Shawneed, two roller skating rinks, Topeka Jazz workshop, Helen Hocker theater, civic symphony, scouting, fishing, fossils (did you mother not have a crinoid necklace? , walking the storm sewers from Washburn park west into Westboro. _Biking them_... washing airplanes out at Allen's Airport at 21st and Wanamaker, getting jump flights over to Billard to tank up if you did a good enough job. My daughter lives in Brooklyn, my son in Minneapolis, and THEY both claim that Topeka was a good place to grow up in the 80's and 90's. It _CERTAINLY_ was in the 50's and 60's.....

[edit] How illuminating!

I always wondered where the first African American kindergarten was located.Superslum 02:26, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mayors

I've thrown together articles, slightly better than stubs, for mayors Butch Felker, Duane Pomeroy, James McClinton, and Bill Bunten. Since I know nothing about Topeka, if someone with more local knowledge can look at these, I would appreciate it. I haven't been able to dig up online resources, besides name dropping, for any mayors previous to them. JRP 17:38, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CITY RANK

Both Kansas City and Topeka claim to be the 3rd largest city in kansas. SpokaneWilly 00:35, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coleman Hawkins?

I am pretty sure Coleman Hawkins is a native of St. Joseph, Missouri. I could be wrong, or he could have grown up in both places, but I've always heard him mentioned as coming from St. Joseph.

[edit] Phelps family

There probably should be some kind of inclusion of the Phelps family. They're nationally known and from Topeka. Everyone in Topeka has to deal with them often.

Yeah. What we need is a good description of life there. Must really suck. No offense. --Jnelson09 20:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Topekachu

Remember that? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.122.208.51 (talk) 20:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC).

It's "ToPikachu", and yes; I went there. Good memories. Tony Myers 08:44, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] In-line citations

This article needs them. Can anyone with access to the books in the reference section provide them? Let's try to get that references tag off. Wrad 18:03, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Topeka Memorial Hall

Trying to find indfo on KC's Memorial Hall ... found Topeka Memorial Hall. Just a note. J. D. Redding

[edit] "The Song That Never Ends"

From the "Religion" section:

Topeka is also known for Payton Alexander's well-known campfire song, "The Song that Never Ends" …

This has the look of vandalism or hearsay. Even if this were true, the song's Wikipedia article says it was written by Norman Martin and gives no mention of Topeka at all; plus, how this kids' song would have anything to do with religion is beyond me. And who in the hell is Payton Alexander? Tony Myers 08:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Coleman Hawkins

Coleman Hawkins was one of the famous people who lived in Topeka but not a native of Topeka ; Ewan, a reader89.139.169.76 21:26, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wal-Mart

It shows that there are two wal-marts, but one opened in north topeka this year on rochester road. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.184.235.117 (talk) 21:57, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Topeka Media

I'd like to add a short section on Topeka's local Media, such as the TV and Radio stations, talk shows, etc. Any thoughts? Thomas Lessman (talk) 16:03, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

You can go ahead and add a "Media" section. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cities/Guideline#Media for additional ideas. —Mike 00:02, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
