[edit] British and American spellings
Tony, please do not go around changing all American spellings to British ones. In articles on British subjects, British spelling is used. In articles on American subjects, American spellings are used. In other articles which are more general (e.g. cat) we leave spellings as they are. Insisting on changing spellings of words to one particular version or the other is disruptive and only leads to edit wars. Please help everyone by leaving well alone. Thanks, Gwernol 19:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] UK v. americanized (?) English.
OK - I see your point. As a Copy Editor I have to really rein myself in to accept some west of the pond spellings - although I have to admit others are probably easier and more logical. But message received and understood. I've not mastered knack of replying yet. Hope this gets through. - Tony. PS I'll not pontificate on Welsh though!
- Thanks, the reply was fine. You can either reply on your own talk page or on mine, either is fine. I appreciate the swift response. Good luck, and if you ever have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. As it happens, I'm not Welsh and barely speak a word of the language, so you're welcome to pontificate about it as I wouldn't know the difference. Best, Gwernol 19:32, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] States and Unions
Tony, absolutely no objection to your changing state to State in my article. In the context of the debate above you are clearly right. As a fervent non-fan of the EU (I think I am allowed a small personal statement on a talk page, hope so anyway) maybe it was subconscious. I see from a small sample of New York Times articles that it does not use a capital s for the states of a union I do approve of. Rewardinheaven 22:34, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Talk pages
Tony-- thanks for your suggestion on the talk page for the Minneapolis bridge article. New suggestions such as yours should be put on the bottom of the page, where you will find your prior post. Regards, Kablammo 22:42, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, I moved it there just now after restoring the unexplained undo! Thanks.Tony in Devon 22:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
