List of the Day/List of the Month
Subpages Today's featured list is: FIFA World Cup hat-tricks This month's featured list is: List of countries without armed forces
List of FIFA World Cup hat-tricks lists the occasions when a footballer has scored three or more goals in a single football World Cup Finals match (not including FIFA World Cup qualification matches). Only 48 hat-tricks have been scored in over 700 matches in the 18 editions of the World Cup tournament. As FIFA is the governing body of football (soccer), official hat-tricks are only noted when FIFA recognises that at least three goals were scored by one player in the one match. (More...) This is a list of countries without armed forces. The term "country" is used in the sense of independent state; thus, it applies only to sovereign states and not dependencies, whose defense is the responsibility of another country or an army alternative. The term "armed forces" refers to any government-sponsored defense used to further the domestic and foreign policies of their respective government. (More...)

This is an experiment that is being run to produce results showing that this could be a successful method to select featured lists for the main page. Nominations are being accepted for current featured lists that participants feel should be considered for list of the day. There have been multiple proposals to attempt to get support for getting lists on the main page and this method is one of the contenders for such a change.

I encourage nominations of articles for which you are either the current main editor or were the FLC nominating editor. However, we should represent the broad array of articles without spokespersons. You may undertake nominating articles that you are neither the current main editor and were not the nominating FLC editor. Articles promoted to featured list by inactive editors may be nominated by anyone and a list of orphans has been created to point out featured lists in need of adoption.

In order to get support toward a main page counterpart to WP:TFA and WP:POTD it would be good if we could demonstrate the viability of this or another method of selection. The best way to do that is to participate by nominating and voting for lists here. Many people have asked whether we are progressing toward getting this or some other process on the main page. I hope that by the time of the List of the Year balloting in December we will have shown sufficient viability to renominate this process for discussion. Please continue to show support of this process by nominating lists and by voting for the best ones.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 18:48, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
