From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm a fairly new contributor to Wikipedia.

I can hardly call myself an expert on any topic. For this reason, I've limited my contributions to just a handful of articles with one particular type of verbiage that I feel is erroneous. In each article I've edited thus far, I found entries that may have needed modest editing by searching for this text string: "won Congressional", and other variations of the same. My intent was to locate articles mentioning people who "won" the Congressional Medal of Honor.

I feel that to say someone has "won" this award suggests this most distinguished of all U.S. military awards is received as the outcome of a contest/competition of some kind. I feel confident this is not the case. For this reason, I've taken the liberty of changing articles where someone "won the Congressional Medal of Honor" to "was awarded the ..." or "earned the ...," as appropriate.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to help. Thank you, to all you Wikipedia contributors.
