Tony Newman (drummer)

Richard Anthony 'Tony' Newman (born 17 March 1943, in Southampton, Hampshire) is an English rock drummer. He was at various times a member of the bands Sounds Incorporated, May Blitz, Three Man Army and T. Rex; and has also worked with Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Donovan, Mick Ronson, Gene Vincent, Crystal Gayle and Smashers amongst others.

Examples of his drumming can be heard in Donovan's "Barabajagal" (recorded in 1968, featuring ghost note snare work against a solid groove).^[1], as well as on Jeff Beck's "Beck-Ola" (recorded in 1969).

He resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his wife Toril. Newnman has five children, three of them drummers.
