Tony Cipolla is a newsman for Action News on KSBY-6 for the central coast. Cipolla received the best anchor team award with his partner anchor, Wendy Thies in 2003. Tony had been at KSBY-TV since 1989 with then former co-anchor Jennifer Mandulay. Tony at his current teneture at KSBY-TV covered the Highway 41 fire, the 2003 Central Coast Earthquake just to name a few. Before KSBY-TV Tony worked as a Sports Director at KFMB in San Diego, CA.
Emmy award-winning anchor Tony Cipolla anchors KSBY Action News at 5, 6, and 6:30 p.m. Tony joined the Action News team in 1989, and has covered major stories, from the Highway 41fire to the San Simeon earthquake.
Tony has traveled around the world to produce in-depth reports on places like Cuba and China. His coverage from China culminated with a seven-part series, an hour-long special, and an Emmy nomination. In 2005, Tony won two Emmys for his work on Action News Live at Five, and for the Action News special, "The San Simeon Quake Remembered."
Tony grew up in the small Illinois town of Rochelle. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated in 1985 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Tony's first job out of college was at CNN in Atlanta, Ga. While working at CNN, Tony gained experience in many aspects of news reporting. He worked as a production assistant, writer, editor and producer of live daily newscasts for CNN Headline News.
Tony moved to California in 1986 where he worked at KFMB-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Diego. During his three years there, Tony worked as a writer and field producer.
Tony has received numerous awards for his writing, reporting, and anchoring. He's been the recipient of three Golden Mike awards from the Radio and Television News Association. In addition, the Associated Press has recognized him with five awards. Tony has also been honored with the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in broadcast journalism.
