Toni Kinshofer

Toni Kinshofer (died October 24, 1964) was a German mountain climber.
In 1961, he undertook the first winter ascent of the Eiger North Face with Toni Hiebeler and Walter Almberger and Anderl Mannhardt at 21, the youngest member of the team. Kinshofer, lead through out during their epic, six day (March 6-12th)climb.
On June 23, 1962, he was one of three climbers to reach the summit on the German team that made the first successful ascent of Nanga Parbat in Pakistan by what is now known as the Kinshofer route, up the very steep Diamir Face. This was only the second successful ascent of Nanga Parbat, which was often called the Killer Mountain. The Kinshofer route has now become the standard ascent route. However, one member of the team, Siegi Löw fell and died during the descent.
Kinshofer died in a fall in the climbing area Battert near Baden-Baden in the Black Forest in 1964.
