Sorry, why did you move Popović to Popovic? --necronudist (talk) 15:46, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Because that's his name. Not too difficult, is it? A better question would be to ask User:Maestral why he had earlier moved this Australian, without any discussion nor any evidence, to Tony Popović, a name not supported by any of the cited sources. Gene Nygaard (talk) 17:43, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Don't get angry...however Australian websites usually never report diacritics (like USA websites on ice hockey players). Culina was born Čulina and I've never seen an Australian website with the correct spelling... Question is: was Popovic born Popović? --necronudist (talk) 20:55, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

No, that's not even the question. Not under our naming conventions. We don't have any "birth name" rule, even if you could find any evidence whatsoever that the birth name of the subject of this article is anything other than the most likely one, Anthony Popovic. Best known in English is more relevant (and hence also "Tony" rather than "Anthony" as well as "Popovic"), especially in cases such as this where there is no evidence that he ever uses anything other than Popovic.
I'm not angry. Just pointing the logical move for you to be questioning, not the move where you have no evidence that it should be anything else. Gene Nygaard (talk) 23:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Let's rephrase that. I'm not angry at you or at your question. I am damn pissed off at about a zillion of the other similar undiscussed, unreferenced moves to spellings for which the person who makes the move, as Maestral did here, has no supporting evidence whatsoever. Gene Nygaard (talk) 23:06, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
If that's the case, there are many Australian football players that needs to have their pages moved to get rid of the accents. Chanheigeorge (talk) 05:50, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
That certainly wouldn't surprise me any. Gene Nygaard (talk) 09:00, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm not very keen on burocratic matters, so I can't say anything else. However I support original spellings. --necronudist (talk) 10:40, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
