Talk:Tonopah, Nevada

- After leaving Tombstone, Arizona, where he'd taken part in the famous Gunfight at the OK Corral, Wyatt Earp and his wife, Josephine, operated the Northern, a saloon, in Tonopah. After only one year, he sold his saloon and continued his travels.
- Correction: The Northern was, and still is, in Goldfield, 26 miles south of Tonopah. The saloon was operated by Tex Wickard. Earp had little or nothing to do with the operation, although there are some indications that he may have been a pit boss for a short time.

I believe that several of these towns: Tonopah, Searchlight, Amboy used to be served by the old US Hy 66, and have suffered loss of business due to an Interstate (probably 40), but it's from memory and I can't find details. As I recall, Needles, CA was also on Rte 66 and I think it's on the new Interstate. Carrionluggage 04:44, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pronunciation
It would be beneficial for someone to post a pronounciation key here for the name of the town. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.120.35.7 (talk • contribs)
I live in Tonopah, it's pronounce Tone-ah-pa not sure how that would look in the fancy phonetic jargon used in dictionaries, but you people can figure that out.
Also, above someone talks about route 66, that's Tonopah Arizona, not here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.45.236.170 (talk) 05:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
