Talk:Ton Steine Scherben
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] The name
about the literal translation: "ton" has two meanings in german. one is clay, the other is sound. obviously the bandname is about the sound. the bandname could also be understood as proclamation: from Sound [music] to Stones to Shards [broken glass]
- Sorry, but that's nonsense. Rio Reiser himself said that the band name was taken from a quotation of Heinrich Schliemann of what he found in Troy ("Ton, Steine und Scherben"). It's true that "Ton" might be translated as "sound" as well, but I don't think Schliemann buried for sound in Troy. --213.196.213.23 16:22, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Why is it nonsense? I'm a great fan of the Scherben an have red the biographies of the Scherben and Rio Reiser.
But my english is not perfect, so I beg for pardon.
Rio made this comentary in 1990, five years after the end of the band. At this point of time he tried to bring his former band out of the political corner. The band had high bills to pay and ned money from the LP sale. In this time music by unpolitical bands sold better. So the theory with "from sound to stones to shards" is more trustworthy.
I base this on a handletter of the band from 1970 which is called "Musik kann eine Waffe sein" (Music can be a weapon). In this handletter the band offers her musical help to all orgaisations and actions who who fight against the 3- class- Society...
On this background it is plausible that the band chooses a name who supports aggressivity and calls out the enemy of the movement: The contollmadness of the government in this place played by the Bau Steine Erden.
Also its wrong that the stage in Fehmarn began to burn. Where they should have played after the burn? A wooden house near the stage burned down.

[edit] Cleanup
I started a bit of a cleanup.. This article needs a lot of attention, in particular, citations and references to back up the history, also maybe we should consider moving the discography to a different section, a list with all albums including song titles clutters the article too much.. And pictures, we need pictures! Free licensed preferably.. --Johnnyw talk 16:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
To: References! All the informations I put into the text come from:

- Well, I knew that most of the information you provided was correct, the only problem is, that we need to backup the statements for other readers, to get this article up to encyclopedic standards. There are several ways to do it. One would be to add a section "References" and then just put the biographies you cite there, and the others would be to use inline citations to back up each individual claim and match it to the book and page numbers cited. Of course, this means more work, but in my opinion, it is more precise. To cite the books in general would be something of an absolution to add anything without source. For further information, and to form your own opinion, you could take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for a guideline, or view the article Tool (band), where we made heavily use of inline citations.
By the way, thanks for your work. Have you considered registering a username? It would make our collaborative effort here a bit easier, and it would be nice to know, who I am talking to. --Johnnyw talk 11:18, 12 June 2007 (UTC) - To help you out: in order to reference the statements with an inline citation, I could tag three facts each with one of the according references you listed above. Then I could give each reference a short name and you could use this short name (would be something like
<ref name=riobiosakay/>
to tag the other bits of facts accordingly. What do you think? --Johnnyw talk 19:49, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I think that would be OK.Bobbes 06:16, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wonderful! I have added the three in correct citation format to the first sentence, which should be OK I guess. So what you would have to do, is to add the following tags (<ref name=abc/>), to the corresponding statement.:
- Keine Macht für Niemand - Die Geschichte der Ton Steine Scherben:
- <ref name=niemand/>
- Scherben: Musik, Politik und Wirkung der Ton Steine Scherben:
- <ref name=scherben/>
- Das alles und noch viel mehr. Rio Reiser - Die inoffizielle Biografie des Königs von Deutschland:
- <ref name=reiser/>
- Thanks and greetings. Johnnyw talk 11:08, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
