Global Citizen writer Tom Dennen has, like millions of frustrated authors, examined most areas of the Vanity Press, POD publishing and entities like PublishAmerica.

It was Thomas Jefferson who said that he had no problem with a person taking a light from his taper and passing that light on to other people holding unlit tapers – what he was saying is that ideas are freeware or at least shareware and should be owned by all of us.

But the guy who ‘created’ the concept still needs to pay the rent.

So in the current great debate on intellectual property, Jefferson’s concept is lost, probably because of any current system’s ability to adequately pay the creators of intellectual properties.

Those properties therefore stay ‘owned’ by their creators until sold into traditionally greedy markets at traditionally low-rent money.

But we are not all The Beatles.

OK. I think the Web, along with a wonderful concept (which I quite naturally thought of first, but what the hell) called Wikipedia, will allow concept creators to share ideas and make money:
