[edit] Seeking adoption?
Hi,
If your seeking adoption, I don't have a sea of time but I'm willing to take another adoptee if that's ok with you. Do you have any specific questions or things you'd like to talk about? I'm not really in to video games though, and I certainly don't have experience on wikipedia about it. I do have a prior history of AoE-addiction :-D
greets, --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 23:18, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't understand exactly what you mean, but let me try: you can click "history" above any article. This gives you a list of previous versions. Experiment with that page, e.g. by comparing version. Also, if you want to revert the changes of, let's say, a vandal who has put the word "penis" in the article, you can (1) click the last correct version (2) click "edit" (3) save it, ignoring the warning: all later changes are lost, and this was your goal, i.e. reverting the vandal's words.
- You can also add articles to your watchlist (by clicking "Watch"). This allows you to follow changes on a set of articles.
- If this doesn't answer your question, try me again (:-D) or click Help on the left, or type {{helpme}} on your userpage and another friendly wikipedian will come to assist you, or read for example Help:Editing.
- --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 23:58, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

- Aha, you're talking about "articles for creation". Well, the procedure is explained on that page, but it's something for experienced users... Most content on Wikipedia is not created in this way, but just by people boldly creating new pages. If you really want to clear that backlog, just try to follow the procedure explained to the right of that page (click one of the lists below to find articles), but it'll take experience to decide what should be an article and what not. Does that answer your question?--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 00:19, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Age of Empires III Military Units
Hi Tomas. I didn't propose that this article be deleted - just commented that it has been deleted before. Lists of units in games are often deleted as fancruft. The content does not belong on the Age of Empires III (which I would be very glad if you contributed to - we need all the help we can get), but it is likely to be deleted as a separate article. If the quality of the content can be improved dramatically (eg. changing some sections from lists to prose?) the article might be less likely to be deleted. Good luck :D. Ck lostsword|queta!|Suggestions? 16:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'd also like to add something: At one time, the article included its own article for units and buildings, and it got to the point that there was just way too much information for the article. WP:NOT states that Wiki isn't a game manual, and we should keep that in mind when writing the page, as we don't want to give everything away. I'm fairly sure a passer-by doesn't really want to know the exact gathering rate of a Coureur de Bois, now would they :) Kareeser|Talk! 06:27, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Adopter on Holiday
Hi there are I saw that your adopter has gone on holiday. If you feel the need and would like a co-adopter - don't be afraid to put the Template:Adoptme back on your userpgae. Cheers Lethaniol 23:41, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Tomas - see no one has come and offer adoption, not sure why. I have some more time on my hands now, so I can adopt you if you like. Either leave a message here or on my talk page. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers Lethaniol 10:48, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Adoption Confirmed
Right Adoption confirmed. Well I expect you know how this works - if you have any questions just ask. Can help out with technical or policy stuff, how to deal with other users (not just with big stick!) and can read over any work if you want a second opinion. Just leave a message on my talk. Look forward to hearing from you. Lethaniol 18:59, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Userbox migration
Hi Tomas,
Have come across this a couple of times but as I do not make Userboxes it does not affect me. Suggest you look at at least the first sections of Wikipedia:Userbox migration and its talk page Wikipedia talk:Userbox migration.
The basics are that controversial or biased userboxes / templates are moved out of main space - i.e. the encyclopaedia, into a user's subpage which is considered private. Therefore keeping the upstanding of Wikipedia - eh upstanding. If you are still confused or have a particular problem with this give us a shout. Cheers Lethaniol 16:40, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Centipede (1998 PC Version)
Hi TomasBat,
Right have had a quick little look - and got a few suggestions. Am normally quite critical but take heart this is a good foundation to the article - which probably needs content addition but not major restructuring. Also your wikimarkup and use of infobox is good.
Okay now for some construction criticism:
- See the edits I have made to the first few sections [1]. Now I am not the best linguist by far, but I feel this rewording and condensation makes it much easier to read keeping the important details. If you agree, suggest working on all the other sections in similar fashion. Remember stay concise and precise, only add information that is important not just trivia (e.g. is a list of creatures/monsters important).
- Have not removed any, but consider removing the wikilinks to obvious info, especially if repeated - e.g. PC, classical etc... Wikilinks should be used sparingly for things that are not obvious (Dona Bailey} or are very important (links to dates or big concepts).
- Too many headings possibly - going down to the fourth heading for a relatively article e.g. 1.2.2.1, is a bit too much, consider having bigger sections, split into the relevant paragraphs.
- Finally if you are going to have an external link - make sure it actually links to it. If you can not find the manual then remove the section. Also check it is not a copy violation if you link to a game manual!
Right that is my first impressions. Give us a shout if something does not make sense, and if you want me to have another look or do something specific to the article I am here to help. Cheers Lethaniol 17:19, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, you make me feel harsh with this [2] :):) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lethaniol (talk • contribs) 17:53, 23 December 2006 (UTC).
[edit] The Answer is a Template Deletion
Someone mucked up while proposing the following for deletion Template:User browser - which left the message you saw. This has nothing to do with you, but to do with the template itself. I have removed the template - as it is not useful and we are not meant to use useboxes that all Wikipedians might use (e.g. This user is human). Suggest finding a userbox for this user browses with IE of Firefox. Hope that answers your question. Lethaniol 21:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article Review
Hi Tomas -
Okay this is a good start to an article - but at the moment it is only a stub. Most importantly you need to read up Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_crystal_ball. For a future book to be notable and worthy on Wikipedia - it needs an already notable author (see WP:NOTE) and well sourced third party sources documenting what this future book is about (see WP:V and WP:RS). I tell you this because someone might come along anI d WP:AFD if this future event is not well sourced.
So priorities
- Get it well sourced.
- Add correct stubs (see Wikipedia:Stub) and categories (see Wikipedia:Categorical index).
- Use a template from the following Wikipedia:Current_and_future_event_templates#Future_events at top of page.
- Have a look through the relevant Wikiprojects - they often have pre-determined infoboxes and structures that are well worth using (e.g. I have used the Novels wikiproject template for Catch-22) - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Books, Wikipedia:WikiProject Science Fiction and Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels.
- Sort the infobox using a standard template, recommend Novels template e.g. as used in Consider Phlebas.
- The structure is a bit more complicated as the book is not released - so standard templates are difficult to implement - but have a look at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - this famous series book is yet to be released but it has a well developed structure that you may consider pinching bits of.
- The links for In His Image and Acts of God do not actually go to an article that you mean them two. What I recommend is to not link at all (no point in having four articles on this trilogy - more likely to be deleted, harder to update - once the first book is released can have separate article).
- Reception section needs referencing
- I do not understand the reference section - these books are part of the trilogy yet to be written are they not.
And once all this is done, you will be in a good position to sit back and add the new information as it come in. Again I have been quite critical but hopefully the above points will help you develop this into an excellent article - ready for the books release. Any further questions on this or anything else I look forward to hearing. Cheers Lethaniol 15:14, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Tomas - I am sorry about the confusion, though I think most of my advice stays the same. In terms of Infoboxes for trilogies, there is not any but I like what they have done with The Lord of the Rings which is a featured article. So when you make the articles for the three books in question you can use this style maybe. Also take care in linking to articles that do not yet exist e.g. not In His Image use In His Image (novel) or In His Image (book). Once the article is made you can disambiguate it from the main page see WP:DAB.
- The only piece of advice that really needs changing from above is the structure - if you are going to create separate articles for each book, then the main trilogy article should cover the basics of plot (which you have done, though could be expanded) - details of plot belong in the individual book articles, and general reaction to the series (e.g. links to news stories) would be best on the trilogy page too. Basically anything that relates to all three books on trilogy page, anything specific about one book should go in the individual article. Hope that helps Cheers Lethaniol 14:37, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Block Log
Hi Tomas,
A Block log, is a list of all the blocks and unblocks you have ever had - e.g. here is yours [3] - you are good so have none :). You can find a link to it on the top line of your contributions page.
If you do not know what blocking is all about see Wikipedia:Blocking policy - only for bad people normally. Cheers Lethaniol 15:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Userboxes: Shortening Code
Afraid I can't be of much help - I've never used the 'big table method', rather took the code from an exsisting userbox and modified it (changing colors/image/text)...sorry I can't be of more assistance. - Aerobird Target locked - Fox One! 23:27, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you're referring to User:Aerobird/Userboxes Created - that allows me to have the ones I've created all in one place, and keeps the 'main' user page from getting cluttered. If you're referring to how the userboxes are arranged on my user page, the tables allow me to place them three-abreast which, when you have over 100 userboxes, shortens the page considerably. :-)
- An example of formatting:
{| class="wikitable" border="0" cellpadding="2" |{{user Adult}} |{{User:Ginkgo100/Userboxes/User right-handed}} |{{User suburbs}} |- |{{User:Akrabbim/UBX/Emptybox}} |{{User:Aerobird/CSA Citizen Userbox}} |{{user German}} |}
- ...produces:
|
|
|
||||||
|
|
|
- ...and you can make the table as long or as short as you want by simply adding another break (the |-) and additional lines.
- Hope this helps you out... - Aerobird Target locked - Fox One! 23:35, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- Ah, now I understand. :-) That is necessary to allow transclusion of the userbox onto a userpage. For instance, if you put the userbox code {{User en}} on your page, the userbox is piped from the Wikipedia page Template:User en. To use one of the examples you mentioned, in order for someone to have the Wikiproject Birds userbox on their page, I need to have it at User:Aerobird/WP Birds Userbox so that they can put {{User:Aerobird/WP Birds Userbox}} on their page and have the userbox appear. - Aerobird Target locked - Fox One! 23:56, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image upload
All you have to do to upload an image is click "Upload file" in the toolbox (under the searchbox). For a screenshot, you have to add {{game-screenshot}} as the caption (the biggest box) while uploading. This ensures that a bot won't delete it a few days from now as unlicensed. Hope that helps! | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 14:31, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Add the template I gave you above (that's the one used for screenshots)
- Add it to the box that says "Summary (author, source, URL, fair use rationale if applicable, extra {{tags}}, etc.):"
- The only other things you have to do are 1. add the file name from your computer (C:\Documents and Settings\Jose y Valeria\My Documents\My Pictures\Tokxatron\Aztec Destruction.emf) to where it says "Source filename", and add the name you want for the picture (example: Aztec Destruction.emf) to where it says "Destination filename:".
Good luck, and leave me another message if you need more help. | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 15:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
No, {{subst:game-screenshot}} is the license you have to add. It's much simpler that way. :-) | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 15:44, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm... did you type ".emf" after the source and destination names of the file? | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 15:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Not "emf.", but ".emf". If that doesn't work either, click browse, then go to my documents; then my pictures; Tokxatron, the folder; and finnaly the picture. By the way, has your "new messages" bar changed? Mine says "Your user talk page has been edited (last change)." now. | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 19:15, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Again eh? :-) Anyways, did the above instructions work? | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 19:26, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Could be. Or maybe someone hijacked Wikipedia. :-O | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 19:29, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
If .emf doesn't work, and neither does browsing for the picture, try ".wmf", ".jpg", and ".bmp". Then cross your fingers. | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 19:32, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm... Did you change the file name, move it, or in any way alter it? Also, did you take it with the "Prt Scr" (Screenshot) button two places above "Delete", or with a program installed in your computer? | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 22:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Just got back, but I can only be here for about five minutes... Which image, the Ottoman homecity? | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 02:24, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Let's see... you said it was paint? Paint uses the file format ".png". That's probably why it was corrupted, because the file type was changed (I believe changing it back fixes it). | AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 10:13, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Age of Empires III edit
Hi. A copyedit in this case is the removal of information that has no value to readers of the article who do not play the game. According to the Computer and Video Games Wikiproject, it is preferable not to include details that can be construed as 'gameguides' - ie. tips or pieces of trivia for actual players of the game. The other use of 'copyedit' in my edit summaries to AoE is in the sense of correcting grammar or spelling. ck lostsword|queta!|Suggestions? 22:44, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your uploaded image...
Hi TomasBat... I read your message to CKLostsword, and the answer is quite simple, really :)
All you need is to add a summary to the image. Say who took it (that would be you), why (to demonstrate home city on Age of Empires III article, perhaps), how (computer screenshot).. stuff like that...
If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to reply on my talk page. Happy editing! Kareeser|Talk! 01:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you took the image from a website, then it may belong to that particular website. Also the image itself may belong to EA. Under fair-use, we are only allowed two low-quality images to use as images. We've pretty much exceeded that limit already, so there doesn't seem like much you can do... As a general rule, uploading images from other websites is tricky and frowned upon because it borders on it being illegal (ownership rights and the like)... Kareeser|Talk! 01:45, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- Incidentally, please bear in mind that it is impossible for another user to upload a file that is on your computer: it is on a 'local' file (meaning that only you or other users of your computer can access it). Thanks. ck lostsword|queta!|Suggestions? 19:44, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hoax new message box
Yes, I mean the hoax new message box. When there's a lot of pressure answering serious messages, it's really annoying. It also trades off trust that these systems can be relied on for wiki communication and undermines ones reliability on them. Will you remove the hoax? Tyrenius 19:20, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have removed the hoax "new message" boxes from your talk and user pages. Please don't replace them. These boxes are for conducting wiki business and people rely on them for information. This undermines ones ability to rely on the proper ones. Your justification for keeping them is that you don't want to remove them because "it's fun". However, you admit "I know it can get annoying sometimes." There is no justification for keeping something for your own amusement, when you know it can annoy other editors. Your solution is "if you don´t like it, then never visit my userpage nor any of my subpages." This is undermining the purpose for which you are allowed to have a userpage and subpages, namely communication with other editors for building an encyclopedia. Tyrenius 19:17, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Check out WP:USER and what you can't have on your user page. This includes "Games, roleplaying sessions, and other things pertaining to "entertainment" rather than "writing an encyclopedia" ... if user page activity becomes disruptive to the community or gets in the way of the task of building an encyclopedia, it must be modified to prevent disruption." (my italics) Tyrenius 23:40, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- What Tyrenius failed to mention is that what he cited was a guideline, not a policy, and that there is no consensus about it. Until policy is clarified, you are allowed to have that on your page. Please see this discussion for details. Jeffpw 09:18, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm afraid you are gravely mistaken about guidelines, which certainly do need consensus, which in the case I cited is quite clear. All you've done so far today in your edits is argue to keep hoax message boxes. It might not be the most productive use of your time. Tyrenius 09:41, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, Tyrenius, David certainly disrupted the Wikipedia today with his exercise in WP:POINT. I, for one, regret that so much of my time was wasted having to respond to administrators who either do not understand policy vs. guidelines, or choose to ignore the difference, as well as the lack of consensus surrounding it. Let's all hope that tomorrow will be a more productive editing day than today is turning out to be. :-) Jeffpw 09:47, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, can I legally keep it or not? Am I breaking a rule by having it, or am I just ignoring usefull suggestions? --TomasBat (@)(Sign) 13:58, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- My sense of the discussion is that at this moment you may have it on your page. If you thought it was policy, based on Tyrenius' message, you were misled (however inadvertently). However, we are in a fluid situation, and you should continue monitoring the Emergency Broadcast System for updates as they occur. Jeffpw 14:05, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- I reject your suggestion that TomasBat was misled either deliberately or inadvertently. I gave him a link to the relevant page. He could, and no doubt did, read for himself exactly what was said there. As far as whether it can be kept or not, it depends who you speak to at the moment, as the whole thing is a furore. Jimbo is apparently going to implement a decision. Tyrenius 02:03, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Well ,first of all, thanks for letting me help on this article. Second, I'll also try to get some photos and maybe some information. Thanks, Slartibartfast1992 02:27, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I haven´t been around that much lately and I haven´t really helped a lot on the TEG article (school just started). Ill try to be available. Slartibartfast1992 01:02, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, peer review, and project-wide collaboration.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 22:42, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion in the False New Messages
I noticed the box saying "You have new messages" when I added my name to your sig book. However, I also noticed that you put "Last Change" in capital letters. In the actual message, the words are "last change" instead. If you wish to ensnare more people with the box looking more authentic, you may want to fix that. [edit] Vandalism
I am so sorry. On another page, I had read someone's guidelines that said "No vulgar, sexual, messages etc." and so when I signed I said "Not a vulgar, etc. ~~~~". The fact is, before then I had copied the phrase "No I will not sign your page. :P ~~~~". After then, I copied the "vulgar etc." for my own autograph page (which I have not made yet), and accidentally copied the "vulgar, etc." into your page. I am quite sorry. (If anything I have said was unclear, please ask about it.) — $PЯINGrαgђ 21:38, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your signature
I just thought you might find it valuable to know that, when I was reading the Jimbo Wales talk page, I found that your most recent signature was not legible on my screen. The yellow and greenish small letters are not clearly visible on the background. I'm not telling you that you have to change it, I just wanted to let you know that if you are trying to say something with those words, not everyone can see it. Thanks. [edit] Blocked User
Hi Tomas,
On this issue it would be useful if you could point out the user in question. I have been digging around but not found out anything yet - but I will continue. I vaguely remember that a user that only spends time using their account for social purposes may be blocked (i.e. not a ban - they can create a new account, but will need to concentrate more on editing wikipedia) - but I maybe wrong. Again please point me to the user in question and I will get back to you. Cheers Lethaniol 22:03, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Okay I have found the user - see [4] - only 2 edits out of 167 is not very good - and does give the suggestion that they are using their account only for socialising (I agree with User:Steel359 on this). Cheers Lethaniol 22:09, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- Okay here is the guideline that the block is based upon - WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_blog.2C_webspace_provider.2C_or_social_networking_site. I have to say I agree with this - server space should not be used for only socialising - ALL editors should be here to improve wikipedia in whatever way.
- I suppose the next question is what to do about it. The user in question can always make another account, and get on with it. They can promise to get on with editing wikipedia and have their account unblocked. But above all the user in question will have to show a great willingness and priority to the improvement to Wikipedia if the wish to continue editing on it. Cheers Lethaniol 22:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Block
I know that my sister has been blocked,. Can other administrators than User:Steel359 unblock her? --Yummie 17:16, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK, that would help a lot. She likes editing typos, but if she cannot edit anything but her talk page then what else can she do (except reasearch), you know? --Yummie 17:48, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

- Does it work?

[edit] File uploading
Hi Tomas -
Sorry for my delay in replying on the question you asked, have been away from the internet for a few days.
Okay - generally speaking I do not think the upload command at Special:Upload is used in Wikipedia for items except images. There are other projects where other file types can be uploaded for specific purposes e.g. see WP:SPOKEN. Basically the reason for this is that Wikipedia is encyclopaedia driven - and uploading of files is organised by another part of the Wiki project - see Wikimedia]. The reason Wikipedia allows image uploading is to allow users easy access to this function, without registering on another site (note the image is very quickly copied over to Wikimedia).
Anyway the upshot of all this - is that if you have your own content that you wish to release under the WP:GDFL license to Wikipedia e.g. videos, animated diagrams, sound recordings etc... then do so at Wikimedia. Obviously these files have to be relevant to the development of the Wiki projects i.e. notable, relevant, high quality, appropraite format etc... I suggest you have a look at Wikimedia and see if it is what you are looking for - any questions either ask there, or me and I will search for the answers. Also if you had a particular file of interest in mind then a particular WP:Wikiproject may already have the tools to help you.
Ok get back to me if this answers your questions. Also as an aside I will contact your brother after the weekend to offer adoption. Cheers Lethaniol 15:54, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Please reduce the length of your signature. Sigs serve to identify you and provide a link to your user and/or user talk page - I think you'd be able to do that with one fifth the HTML code that you currently have. Thanks. Picaroon 23:06, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Oppose.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Oppose.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:08, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Random smiley stuff
Please stop with that nonsense. Messaging people at random, even with a "nice" message is just spam. Nothing more anoying than having to stop what you are doing to check the talk page only to find a pointles random smiley (at least make it "opt in" only for those who actualy like getting messages for no good reason). I also removed your fake "you have messages" banner, spoofing MediaWiki interface messages is frowned upon and this one is just anoying. --Sherool (talk) 14:16, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Messages Joke
Not long ago, the admins had a monkey-dance about the “new messages” joke, and decided that it was bad-bad-bad.
Part of their unreasoning was that this would cause users to distrust the interface; another was that fake “new messages” alerts could be used (with spoofing) to collect login information. It did not occur to the monkey-dancers that people should be taught (by jokes or otherwise) to distrust an untrustworthy interface.
In any case, you could get in trouble for playing this joke on your User and User_talk pages. —SlamDiego 06:03, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Random smiley script
I'm working on it at the moment. What's the code for a random smiley? (BTW, some users may not like random talkpage spam; I suggest you don't overuse the script if/when I make it!) --ais523 14:21, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Wait... I think I saw it in the bot request; you want thesection name as Random Smiley Award and the text as {{subst:User:Pedia-I/SmileyAward1}}, right? --ais523 14:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- ...and it's done. Copy the following code into your monobook.js:
//Random smiley script. By [[User:ais523]], based on the suggestion by [[User:TomasBat]]. addOnloadHook(function(){ if(document.referrer.indexOf("RandomSmileyGenerator") != -1 && wgNamespaceNumber == 2 && wgTitle.indexOf("/") == -1 && wgPageName.indexOf(wgUserName) == -1) { //we're trying to give a random smiley location.href=wgServer+wgScriptPath+"/index.php?title=User_talk:"+ encodeURIComponent(wgTitle)+"&action=edit§ion=new&randomsmiley=1"; } else if(document.referrer.indexOf("RandomSmileyGenerator") != -1 && wgNamespaceNumber == 2 && location.href.indexOf("RandomSmileyGenerator") == -1 && wgPageName.indexOf(wgUserName) == -1) { alert("This seems to be a user subpage, so there's no point in smiling at it. " + "Why not go back and try again?"); } else if(location.href.indexOf("&randomsmiley=1")!=-1) { document.editform.wpSummary.value="Random Smiley Award"; document.editform.wpTextbox1.value="{"+"{subst:User:Pedia-I/SmileyAward1}} ~~"+"~~"; document.editform['wpPreview'].click(); //change to wpSave to save without a preview } });
-
- (Note that you should only install scripts in your monobook.js if you trust the user sending you the script, especially if they just turn up out of the blue on your talk page. I'm an administrator, so I assume I'm trustworthy, but...)
- L Then bypass your cache (on IE and/or Firefox for Windows press Ctrl-F5, see the link for instructions on other browsers/OSs), and then use the link at User:TomasBat/RandomSmileyGenerator to send someone a random smiley! (The name of the page on which the link appears is significant to the script; going to that subpage and then clicking on the link is the way to trigger the script). At the moment, I've set up the script to preview the smiley rather than save it outright (this is to give you a chance to stop in the case of something going wrong; this is not unheard of with scripts, especially in userspace where people try all sorts of unusual things); you can change it to automatically save by changing wpPreview to wpSave in the antepenultimate line. Let me know if it works/you have problems, and move your WP:US request to 'fulfilled requests' if it works; hope that helps! --ais523 14:49, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- (By the way, the script randomizes users by looking for a random userpage. If it gets a user subpage instead on the randomization, it'll put up an error message instead; in such cases, it's easiest just to try again.) --ais523 16:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Centipede_1998_3D_Screenshot.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Centipede_1998_3D_Screenshot.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigrTex 03:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your welcome message
Hi, I am concerned about your welcome message. It contains one image that is not GFDL and cannot be used in Wikipedia (the bouncing Wikipedia logo). The huge "smiley face" is inappropriate and wasteful of resources. [edit] MotD
Hello, I've noticed you've added colorful images to some of your votes over at WP:MOTD. While your opinion is certainly appreciated, these images are unnecessary and a bit distracting, so I would ask that you please not use them in the future. That's a very welcoming message, but it's also very large. Could you make it more compact? If it could take up just one screen full that'd be much nicer. [edit] RfA
Hi, I'd suggest you consider withdrawing your RfA. Currently, ten users have supported you, eighteen are opposed, and 5 are neutral. Withdrawing would increase your chances of any subsequent candidacy for an adminship passing. However, if you feel that the current RfA has a chance of passing, please don't withdraw.
And also, it would be a good idea to archive your talk, some users might not like it. BH (T|C) 04:55, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- I just got your message, and saw you withdrew your nomination. Hopefully this won't stop you from working here at Wikipedia. [edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Titans right side image 02-1-.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Titans right side image 02-1-.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 07:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your Commander has promoted you!
I'm in a really good mood, you're an awesome friend here on Wikipedia, it was nice of you to add the userbox code, and I know you would've responded to the emergency call if you were able too.
Your WikiFriend,

[edit] Of course
It's posted below. I suggest you take the text, and either create a sandbox to work on it, or work on it offline, but not leave the entire text of the article on this talk page (another words, delete everything but this post). If you expand/improve it significantly, addressing the arguments given during the debate, note that it will not be subject to speedy deletion under CSD G4 as is often misunderstood and misapplied. However, please note that in order to address the arguments, I think the article needs to focus on the topis as it is used (if it used) outside of the book (citing to reliable sources verifiying its content of course). Self-published books are black holes as notability goes. If the focus of the article remains on the book, I don't think that will get you anywhere and will not address the afd debate.--Fuhghettaboutit 01:44, 27 June 2007 (UTC)--Fuhghettaboutit 01:44, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in my RfA. It was successful, and I am now, may God have mercy on us all, an administrator. Look at all the new buttons! I had heard about 'protect,' 'block user,' and 'delete,' but no one told me about 'kill,' 'eject,' and 'purée.' I appreciate the trust the community has in me, and I'll try hard not to delete the main page or block Jimbo. -FisherQueen (Talk) 18:03, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Club penguin missions portfolio.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Club penguin missions portfolio.JPG. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:28, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Duff
I´m not very sure on what to do right now. Gurch´s addition of block templates to users who were not blocked was discussed here, and the result was not blocking him, at that time. ♠TomasBat 16:06, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- Please read User talk:Duff, in particular the user's most recent contributions. That their account is not blocked directly is irrelevent. They are banned, by order of this lame excuse for a policy – Gurch 17:03, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
-
- I read more of the stuff and I see that it was a protest, and that the user is not auctually banned, but has the IP blocked, meaning that the user is welcome to edit from another IP. Still, my apologize, since you were trying to help Duff and not to attack the user. ♠TomasBat 01:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- No, the user is not welcome to edit from another IP. If they obtain another IP and run Tor on that, it will be blocked as well – Gurch 11:43, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- The user is welcome to edit from any IP that is not an open proxy. I am welcome to edit from any IP that is not an open proxy. Gurch and Tomas are welcome to edit from any IPs that are not open proxies. Banned users are not welcome to edit from any IPs at all, regardless of whether or not the IPs are Tor. - If you one day told me I was only allowed to edit using Internet Explorer, I would be forced to cease editing and consider myself "banned" in the same way. The ban on Tor is just as ridiculous – Gurch 12:53, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

- Considering yourself banned and being banned are not the same thing. Your understanding is contrary to the meaning given in Wikipedia:Banning policy. If I put a notice on my user page saying that I was leaving Wikipedia because I no longer had computer access, and Wikipedia did not accept contributions sent in by ordinary mail, would you put a notice on my page saying that I had been banned? [edit] reminder to mentor
Hola Mentors!
Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors
Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.
I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!
Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:45, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter
[edit] Your welcome message
This level of transclusion is completely unacceptable, as was the size of your message. It effectively scared off an editor you used it on, and that's why I've temporarily redirected it to {{welcomeg}}. Fix it before a developer comes along to bite your head off.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 05:50, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Subst for why you shouldn't transclude the same page 1,337 times. I'm currently working on substing them, and this is going to take a while. In the future, please use {{subst:User:TomasBat/Welcome}} so the servers don't choke on it. Thanks. ~Kylu (u|t) 07:42, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, this is the best I can do: :-D (too lazy to go digging around for templates this late ;-) ). Yeah, I haven't been nearly as active as I would have liked to recently. I'm back now though. :-) P.S. Remind me to help you with the Reception section on AoE3 later this week: I bet a hundred bucks I'll forget. ;-) Actually, I had one of the first autograph books here on wikipedia (and the first person, I think, to call it that) so I'm annoyed that I don't have more (just kidding)... and then I voted "Delete" on the MfD (because a lot of people overdid it). :-P · AndonicO Talk 01:19, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dear Tomas
While it saddens me somewhat not to see you running for the mop in the near future, in the ned, it's of little consequence. The important thing is that you remain with us, always helpful, kind, and being the wonderful person and friend you are. And by the way, don't think I didn't get your very nice advices for the Today Wikipedian, sweetie - I simply was on break at the time; but I'll put them to good use, you'll see - and thank you so much for taking the time to help with that! :) Love, Phaedriel - 20:53, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

One last favor Tomas,
We have to find people working at different schools in U.S.A. and Canada.
The difficult part is that we have to talk to them and ask about the department of our major.
Do you know people in those countries that we can contact?
Thank yo for the tip

[edit] Substing welcome templates
Hello Kylu. I remembered these comments: [6] and [7], and this huge amount of edits coming from your part; so I substed transclusions of my welcome template made by other users, and I substed transclusions of some other welcome templates as well. But then, I ran into this welcome template and, since that welcome template's level of transclusion wasn't very small, I started to wonder whether all that should be substed, also considering that that template's level of transclusion was less than 500 compared to the over 1300 level of transclusion of my welcome template, that is was smaller, that it isn't changed very frequently, and that the user who created it is more experienced than me (meaning that the probabilities of that user having a logical and valid reason for not substing are higher). So, is it worth the effort? Should I/anyone subst them all? The answer to this question will also determine my future as a "welcome-template-subster". ♠TomasBat 03:49, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going to copy this section (and my reply) to your talkpage. I'm a proponent of the keep-chatter-in-one-place method, but many aren't.
- Firstly, without AWB, substing each one of those is going to be a pain. While the note should be substed, it might be easier in this instance to simply leave Andrevan a note and have him do it. If he's unable to, someone else probably can. An additional problem with your template, though, wasn't the sheer number of times it was used (though that certainly didn't help) but the amount of sub-template transclusion that was involved also: Templates using templates using templates, all with one choke-point that could've caused the server to choke were it changed. His is pretty much just text. Thanks for your concern, however. ~Kylu (u|t) 05:20, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article Layout
Hi, I was wondering what is the standard 'allignment' for Wikipedia articles? If there is no required 'allignment' I was thinking it might be more appropriate to change the layout of articles so that they are justified rather then left alligned. Only a suggestion, please reply with your opinion and any comments you may have.
Coding: (<)div style="text-align: justify;"(>)TEXT(<)/div(>) - Remember to remove the brackets "( )". -Jack 05:02, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Just replying to let you know that I appreciate the reply and I have started a new discussion in the 'Manual of Style' 'Talk Page' (thanks for the suggestion) and I will soon find out if it is appropriate or not. Hahaha, I don't want or plan to change all of Wikipedia's 2,032,244 articles, so that they are all justified. That's crazy!! Especially if only one person is to do it! -Jack 04:52, 2 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stealth Carbon Eagle (talk • contribs)
- That sort of thing wouldn't be made to every single article; it would be made to the main style sheet of the website. EVula // talk // ☯ // 05:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay...would you mind then explaining to me what the 'main style sheet of...[a]... website' is? Thanks -Jack 05:44, 2 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stealth Carbon Eagle (talk • contribs)
- I recommend reading up on Cascading Style Sheets. Pretty much every modern website utilizes CSS. EVula // talk // ☯ // 06:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Let me get this straight. The 'main style sheet of...[a]... website' is CSS, as it sounds like what your saying. But what I don't get then is what you mean by this "That sort of thing wouldn't be made to every single article; it would be made to the main style sheet of the website." - How does this relate to my initial post? -Jack 06:37, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- You mentioned how you didn't want to edit each of Wikipedia's 2 million+ articles. To achieve the effect you're talking about (justified text, as opposed to left-aligned), you wouldn't edit every single article; you'd only have to edit the style sheet, and then all the pages would show that change. EVula // talk // ☯ // 13:52, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see. So what you're saying is that if I edit the style of one article it will in turn modify the style of every article...so, for curiosity's sake only, where is the style sheet located for all of the articles? Jack 04:11, 3 October 2007 (UTC)- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stealth Carbon Eagle (talk • contribs)
- You can take a look at all the various styles on Wikipedia at MediaWiki:Monobook.css and MediaWiki:Common.css. EVula // talk // ☯ // 04:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm...another question (that has come to me after thinking about the way you have phrased your responses) I would like to ask is that if I change the style sheet and save it, will I only see the changes or will everyone see the changes? -Jack 04:31, 3 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stealth Carbon Eagle (talk • contribs)
- Well, pages in the MediaWiki namespace can only be edited by administrators. However, you could edit Special:Mypage/monobook.css and have any changes you wanted applied across the entire site, and they would be limited to you and you alone (for example, if you wanted to make the background black and the text green, you could do so).
I think additional comments might be best made on my talk page, unless TomasBat enjoys having a running conversation on his talk page that he's not really a part of. :) EVula // talk // ☯ // 05:29, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Hahaha, yeah that's a good point. You seem to be replying more times then he does. Hahaha, he probably enjoys the argument and is reading it so he can prepare himself for the answer next time this topic comes about. Anyway, I was just thinking, that maybe it would be a good idea, theoritically speaking, to have all the articles on one subject (or topic) justified, rather then having to change the style sheet for all of the articles. What are your thoughts? -Jack 06:29, 3 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stealth Carbon Eagle (talk • contribs)

[edit] Borregos Salvajes
Borregos Salvajes is the name of all collage sports teams that represents the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey since the foundation in 1943 in different sports like: basketball, volleyball, football and soccer in all the different categories both manly and feminine. [1]
[edit] ONEFA
The Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Fútbol Americano (National College Organization of American Football) it´s the result of very important football organizations. Among with this team also was born the Club Deportivo Internacional (International Sports Club). And in 1929 was instituted the first official summon for a championship, by Jorge Braniff. [2]
This was the beginning of football in our country. First major category, later the second and third force, later the fourth arises, some years later infantile, etc. In 1970 it takes the name of National League and in 1978 ONEFA is finally created. [3]
[edit] College American Football
Borregos Salvajes are best known for the college American Football representations of ITESM campus across Mexico. The three most successful College American Football Borregos teams are those from Campus Estado de México, Campus Monterrey and Campus Toluca. Whenever these three teams meet, the game is considered a derby. [4]
Since the ITESM first competed in the ONEFA, the many Borregos teams have dominated the league, with most of the championships going to one ITESM team. However, since these events are only recent, most other participants don't consider the Borregos to have a great history. [5]
[edit] Campus Toluca ONEFA Team
This team begins in the mayor league in 1995, when most of the players were rookies, at the beginning their seasons weren’t exactly what they expected, but with the pass of the years the team has become more important and more competitive, the players had earned a lot of experience throw the games played. In 1997 the team has an administrational change, and with a new head coach they managed to climb to the “10 Grandes” conference. [6]
The first years at the maximum circuit were difficult but promising. The team shows the desire of being protagonist and their zeal to improve keeps growing every day. At 2000, another head coach starts to lead this team, and with some other committed staff members, they managed to stay at the conference and figurate as one of the most important teams in the league. [7]
These days the team is coming throw bad times as a consequence of a trouble during a preseason game, but the administration of the ITESM Campus Toluca is trying to fix this issue, spite of all this team has the spirit and the hope to come throw. [8]
[edit] Campus Monterrey ONEFA Team
In 1945 a group of young students from an emerging educational institution, came together to create a team of a little known sport called football, for the purpose of complying with an invitation of the newly created team of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (Autonomous University of Nuevo León), they never thought that they would be giving birth to an icon of the culture area. [9]
The first classic of this region was played on November 20, 1945, and the team won by marker 12-7. From 1945 to 1947 Borregos compete in a league with the local teams Tigres and Gatos Negros. But thanks to the rapidly growth of football in Monterrey, the second force league was established in 1946. When the first force season 1947-1948 arrived, Borregos under the command of a new head coach, Leroy Willeford obtained their first victory in a first force classic on Nov. 8, 1947. [10]
The next year, on Dec. 11, 1948, Borregos won their first championship in the mayor category. On July 17, 1950, was inaugurated the Estadio Tecnológico (Technological Stadium). Borregos won the mayor league trophy in 1950, 1951, 1953, 1958 and 1959. Borregos were crowned champions in 1962-1964. In 1965 the team was not formed by a decision of the ITESM, but returned the next year. [11]
In 1974, with a new head coach, Julio Ayala, Borregos Salvajes became the new national champions. In 1985, Coach Frank inherited a team that will get the crown in 1987, 1988 and 1989, of the National Conference, of the newly created ONEFA. After losing the title despite advancing to the postseason in 1991 and 1992, Borregos Salvajes started the 1993 campaign with the assurance that they were on the right track to achieve its first national champions trophy at the “10 Grandes” conference. [12]
In 1994, Frank González and his team repeated as monarchs of the ONEFA. And since 1996 they began a run that until today is kept alive. They are present at all the major finals of the highest level of student football in Mexico. Currently Borregos Salvajes are renowned throughout the Mexican republic, and their games are viewed through the main television sports channel, ESPN, in the entire continent. [13]
[edit] Campus State of Mexico ONEFA Team
Since the foundation of the State of Mexico campus in 1976, the sport is regarded as an "essential activity in the comprehensive education of our students." One of the sports that had greater acceptance and support from the campus community has been the Football. [14]
This sport began to take place in the year 1979, in the intermediate category, and in 1984 already had teams in 3 different categories: Youth A, AA and Intermediate, and since 6 years ago Mayor Category. The mayor league team began in 1994 participating in the ONEFA. The team won the second place. [15]
In the year 1996 with a record of 11 wins with no defeats, finally the team achieves the championship of the national conference, which gave this team the opportunity to play at the highest level in the country. In the first appearance in the conference, the 4th place was obtained with a record of 5 wins and 5 losses, losing the semifinal. [16]
The year 2000 marked the beginning of what will be the dynasty of Borregos, and in this year they won the more desired title by the players, the championship in the of "10 Grandes " conference. In the following years the team had setbacks since it was never the main goal, however not ceased to be on the first 3 places of the table. [17]
Football its a sport that requires not only strength but also intelligence and especially attitude: not to be overcome, courage and fight against adversity. This is what Borregos Salvajes have demonstrated year after year, because in the past 12 years the team have been involved in 34 finals, of which the team have achieved 22 championships and 12 second places. [18]
[edit] Campus Mexico City ONEFA Team
Football in Mexico City campus had its origins in the year 1992, the year in which barely combined two categories: Youth "A", and Intermediate. Football was a new sport on the campus, and that is why student’s participation was low. However, there were young people who trusted and formed part of the team since its inception, thus marking the beginning of a joint history, the football as a traditional sport in the Mexico City campus. [19]
The year 1994 marked the beginning of a new phase with the arrival of coach Manuel "Pibe" Vallarí, with his presence there was a restructuring, which made the effort to recruit players from outside the campus, inviting them to play and study within an institution of great prestige and level. [20]
In 1995, Borregos Salvajes played its first championship in the free intermediate category, which prompted the interest and desire to be part of the team to a greater number of students, thereby creating the possibility of launching a mayor league team on campus. [21]
In 1996, Borregos Salvajes obtained the championship of Youth "AA" CONA league, noting that the competitive level of this team was on the rise. In that same year the scholarship program began for student development of football players, which opens the mayor league team at the campus in 1997, with young players with great potential, the national conference of the ONEFA. [22]
The new stage of football in Mexico City campus began in 1999 with the arrival of head coach, Jaime Antonio Martinez Celaya. For the 2000 season, Borregos Salvajes of were listed as the big favorites to reach the championship, and so they did it, they won the championship that gave him a spot in the “10 Grandes” conference. [23]
Since 2001 until 2004, Borregos Salvajes only were able to win 1 game in the conference. Due to the lack of positive results, the administration decides to hire a new head coach, Mario Revuelta Zúñiga, and immediately the results improve and Youth A team achieves the championship undefeated and mayor league team managed to win 3 matches, the same story was repeated in 2005. For 2006 an advisory committee was created where both Mexico City campus and Santa Fé campus cooperate together to strengthen the football program and decided to have a new head coach, César Martínez Sánchez. [24]

- Thanks for your reply, I don't know why anyone would worry about such a little thing like that. Someone said that it was confusing, how could it be confusing, after the first click all you have to do is click the backward arrow to go back to where you were. The whole idea was to trick someone anyway. When I first saw yours I thought it was quite cool. I guess some people have nothing better to worry about. Cheers_Ad@m.J.W.C. 05:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
