Tomb of The Mutilated is third album by American death metal band Cannibal Corpse. It was released in 1992 through Metal Blade Records and is the last album featuring founding guitarist Bob Rusay. The album was banned in Germany until June 2006, due to the cover art featuring one corpse performing cunnilingus on another.[citation needed] The censored version features a further corpse presumably watching the act (not shown) in adoration.[citation needed] It is considered by many to be Cannibal Corpse's best album because of the heavy riffs, speed, clean production, Chris Barnes' vocals and lyrics, which are incredibly perverse.
Chris's Barnes' vocals on Tomb of The Mutilated are exceptionally guttural, and the liner notes proudly state that an "Electronic Harmonizer was not used to create any vocals on Tomb of The Mutilated".
Because the liner notes on Tomb Of The Mutilated feature quotations from American serial killer Albert Fish, Fish is often incorrectly credited with being the voice at the beginning of "Addicted To Vaginal Skin". However, the taped confession that you hear at the beginning of the song most likely belongs to the "Genesee River Killer" Arthur Shawcross.[1]
The song Hammer Smashed Face was featured during the band's cameo appearance in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

[edit] Reviews
“Chris Barnes' voice in Tomb of the Mutilated set the benchmark for all other bands to emulate.” "Tomb of the Mutilated" covered and explored the depths of humanity and how much lower they can go.” “It's amongst the sickest, perverted and graphic of all the albums Cannibal Corpse has produced.” [2]
"I loved every second of it. This is a must have for any Cannibal Corpse fan." "It would be hard to pick out the good or the bad tracks on this one because, well, they're all pretty damn good. I do suggest staying with the classic songs such as "Hammer Smashed Face", "I Cum Blood", and "Addicted to Vaginal Skin", but even my least favorite song on the album ("Post Mortal Ejaculation") is still pretty decent."- Kicked in the Face [3]
"the music here is a little more complex and better elaborated, the effort is shown in songs like "Hammer Smashed Face" (Cannibal Corpse most popular song) with maddening and unforgettable riffs, a crushing bass playing, and incredibly fast drumming. and "I Cum Blood" showing incredible pulsations" "Tomb Of The Mutilated is a high-quality album in general, really one of the greatest albums in Cannibal Corpse history and maybe in Death Metal history too"- The Metal Storm[4]
"Released in 1992, Tomb of the Mutilated helped establish Cannibal Corpse's reputation as one of metal's goriest, most vile outfits. Listeners unfamiliar with the belching vocal style and pummeling drum and guitar attack typical of death metal probably won't understand what separates this or any other record that adheres so stringently to the genre's formula, but learned fans have come to appreciate Tomb of the Mutilated as a solid, if not important, offering. Vocalist Chris Barnes' constant barrage of Cookie Monster-esque lowdown grunting is pretty much unintelligible throughout, leaving his gross-out lyrics offensive only to those who read them. However, the effect works nicely and maintains tradition."- All Music Guide [5]
"All in all “Tomb Of The Mutilated” is a varied record in that respect that it contains lots of tempo changes. The blast beats aren’t used in a way that makes them become stale; they stand out when they are used. Not only are the blast beats used wisely, they sound great as well; Scott Burns surely knew how to turn those knobs. Another positive aspect is that the bass guitar is audible in the mix, its good when a band has a strong personality playing the bass, one that won’t let his instrument get buried in the mix, hails to Alex Webster. I would also like to give some hails to the Mr. Rusay and Mr. Owen for churning out lots of good riffs." "It outdoes most of the stuff made by gory Death Metal bands, past and present."- The Metal Observer [6]
