Tomasi Puapua

His Excellency the Rt Hon Sir Tomasi Puapua, GCMG, KBE, PC (born 1938) is a political figure from the Pacific nation of Tuvalu.

[edit] Prime Minister
He was Prime Minister of Tuvalu from 1981-1989. In a country which sees frequent changes among its head of government, Puapua is noted for having been the hitherto longest serving Prime Minister.
[edit] Governor-General
Having exercised the senior executive office for many years, Puapua later served as Governor-General of Tuvalu as HM Queen Elizabeth II's representative from 1998-2003, which is a higher office in protocol terms, but is more ceremonial in nature.
[edit] Commonwealth honours
Tuvalu has retained Queen Elizabeth II as head of state, and Puapua has been in receipt of a number of honours which reflect Tuvalu's status as a Queen's realm of the Commonwealth.
