Tom Stevenson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tom Stevenson is a British wine critic and author living in Oxfordshire. Tom Stevenson special areas of interest are Champagne and Alsace, but he is also the author or editor of several more wide-ranging publications, such as the annual Wine Report and the The Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia,[1][2] the latter estimated along with The Oxford Companion to Wine as one of the essential wine reference books in English.[3] The annual pocket book, the Champagne & Sparkling Wine Guide has on occasion been available by free internet download.[4]
Stevenson specialised in Champagne since 1980, with Champagne (1986) establishing him as a leading expert in the field.[5] His book Christie's World Encyclopedia of Champagne & Sparkling Wine (1998) presented a 17th century document evidence of the English use of still Champagne second fermentation to create sparkling wine at least six years before this could have been done by Dom Pérignon. This went on to be used as proof in the leader of The Guardian.[5]
As the author of over 20 books, he has been the recipent of 27 wine writing awards, and has been nominated "Wine writer of the year" three times.[6][5]
