[edit] Career

Evans started his career with Sheffield United in July 1997 as a trainee.[1] He made no appearances for the side before joining Crystal Palace in June 1996,[1] and was loaned out to Harrow Borough in August 1996.[2] He later made a loan move to Premier League side Coventry City in March 1997, but failed to make any appearances.[3] Palace released him after his first season at the club, but in August he signed for Scunthorpe United.[2]

Evans had surgery on a hand injury in May 2005, having suffered a problem with one of his knuckles on his index finger that had troubled him in previous seasons.[4] He was not offered a new contract with Scunthorpe United in May 2006 and joined York City after making a good impression on manager Billy McEwan and his staff during several weeks on trial in the summer of 2006.[5][6] He said that he believed promotion could be achieved for York with 20 clean sheets.[7] He was sent off for foul and abusive language in York City's game against Crawley Town, which York lost 3–0 having second choice goalkeeper Arran Reid being used as his replacement.[8] He was offered a new contract by York City at the end of the 2006–07.[9]

At the beginning of York's 2007–08 season, Evans came under-fire for poor performances by his manager, Billy McEwan and was later replaced by Bristol City goalkeeper Stephen Henderson.[10][11] Evans kept his place in the side after Henderson's recall back to Bristol City but was released at the end of the season.[12][13]
