[edit] Tom Williams

I am going to rename this article to Tom Williams (Irish republican) is order to stop confusion with other types of republicans. Would anyone object? Vintagekits 18:10, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Are there other types of republican called Tom Williams? PatGallacher 18:17, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

It could be confused with and needs to be distingushed for American republican etc, I will leave it another week before making the changes Vintagekits 17:03, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category

I see my edit has been changed back. There is no such ethnic group or nationality as "Northern Irish". If you wish to add the category, I suggest you create one called "Roman Catholics from Northern Ireland", as the current one is incorrect and I will change it again. Brixton Busters 08:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I suggest you go to WP:CFD then. Stu ’Bout ye! 08:38, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I suggest you stop adding an incorrect category. I have explained clearly why the category is incorrect. Brixton Busters 08:40, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
There is no such ethnic group or nationality as "Northern Irish." To suggest otherwise is simply POV. --Domer48 08:55, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Then go to WP:CFD. All NI people articles are classifed this way. As are all other articles, eg English Roman Catholics, Scottish Roman Catholics and not Roman Catholics from England, Roman Catholics from Scotland. And it is not POV, it is describing where they are from. English isn't a nationality either. Stu ’Bout ye! 09:16, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Northern Ireland is not a country, ethnic group or nationality. --Domer48 10:12, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm not getting into an argument about the status of NI, and it is irrelevant to this discussion. UK articles are categorised this way. If you have a problem with that then CFD is the place to take it up. Stu ’Bout ye! 10:22, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I totally disagree with the use of these sectarian categories in WP, but if they must be used, then it should be Irish Roman Catholics, Northern Ireland as pointed out has no such ethnic group or nationality as "Northern Irish".--padraig3uk 18:55, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
100% agree. But if left out there would be just something else. --Domer48 18:59, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

If you are from Donegal are you also "Northern Irish" as this county has the most northern part of Ireland, or is it just reserved for the six counties BigDunc 21:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Relevant discussion at Wikipedia talk:Irish Wikipedians' notice board#Misleading category changes
Incorrect BigDunc. Someone from Donegal may be northern Irish but not Northern Irish (see also [1]). Padraig, there are only marginally less people who consider themselves Northern Irish in NI than there are who consider themselves simply Irish [2]. This seems to have been a rather consistent trend. That is totaly meaningless, there is no such Nationality as northern Irish. They are all Irish, some regard themselves as British or Both.--padraig3uk 13:43, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
