Tolstoi, Manitoba

Tolstoi is a small town in the Rural Municipality of Franklin, Manitoba, Canada. It is part of the Pembina Valley region.
The 2001 population is 1,781 within a land area of 953.34 km^2.
The closest weather station to Tolstoi is at Emerson.
It is the transfer point for microwave (S-band) television signals between Winnipeg, Manitoba and North Dakota.
Between 1974 and March 1986, cable companies in Winnipeg received the NBC and CBS affiliates from Fargo, through KTHI Tv11 and KXJB Tv4 (through translator K58BP at Glasston, North Dakota) respectively. A third signal, ABC from Grand Forks, WDAZ that was received through here.
By March 1986 Videon Cablesystems and Greater Winnipeg Cablevision received permission from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to replace KTHI and KXJB with WDIV and WJBK of Detroit, Michigan via the CANCOM package on the Anik satellite.
