[edit] History
Tokarta was launched in February 2007 by Girts Gailans and Jan Bickerton and is based in Devon, England.
[edit] Ethos
Tokarta was set up to fairly represent artists online. Unlike conventional art galleries, Tokarta does not charge commission on art works sold, but rather charges artists a rental fee for their space. Each time a work is sold on Tokarta, the money goes directly to the artist. Artists are encouraged to set a fair price for their works. They can also choose to sell their works in a selection of currencies. Their art is actively marketed by Tokarta on the artists behalf.
