[edit] Polite Speech
Is there anyone who can comment on Tohru's polite speech patterns in the original Japanese? Does she simply use the -masu verb forms all the time, or does she extend further into serious keigo?
- Serious keigo, except that she makes grammatical mistakes. Takaya even comments on how she came up with this in the interview in the Cat Fanbook. —Quasirandom (talk) 15:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sign
IT says in the anime that Tohru's zodiac song is the dog.Nightflower 22:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Your right but because of it's format you can ether put the western sign or I geuss in animal you could put dog (but people who don't watch or read it will be confused if they read Shigure's page). Well at least now it shows that she is a Taurus. Smileyface 12 91 09:57, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Development and Reception
Per the manual of style guidelines for chararacter articles, I've added sections for Development and Reception of Tohru. I've collected bits of information, culled from Takaya's author notes and reviewers, respectively, which I'll add as I continue cleaning up the character articles. Till I finish dropping them here and then figure out how to edit them, they won't read real pretty. Please, though, add your own information (with reliable sourcing, please) -- the more the better. —Quasirandom (talk) 15:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- There -- at least the start of info for these. I've left the quotes inside the <ref> tags because I prefer I like the compactness, especially in articles where there's a lot to summarize; given how little I've added so far, though, I'd understand if others wanted to pull them out into explicit quotes. —Quasirandom (talk) 01:19, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
BTW, are there any interviews, especially the Japanese director/actors, on the English DVD releases? I seem to recall a mention of a Yui Horie piece in a review. If so, would anyone be up for distilling anything available about how the character was adapted/treated in the translation to anime? —Quasirandom (talk) 02:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- ~checks DVDs~ Vol 1 has a 25-minute "Behind the Scenes" featurette discussing the series conception (would be great for the main article too). Volume 2 has an interview with director Akitaroh Daichi, and a segment called "Fruits Basket Room 1" that has Tohru's voice actress sitting with others and chatting. Not sure if they talk about anything related to the series, but can give it a check. I haven't watched it myself yet, but I've heard others say its mostly just silly stuff. Disk 3 has a second installment with Tohru and Kyo voice actors. The last volume has a 3 room segment, and a segment of interviews with the English voice cast. Ooo...I forgot volume 4 also has a huge video gallery of Japanese illustrations and covers. ~digs through for character images~ Any segments in there you think might help?Collectonian (talk) 03:08, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

- The director, Horie (from v3), and Bailey (from v4) stuff sounds most promising, at least from the descriptions. —Quasirandom (talk) 04:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- (You realize of course that I'll ask the same thing when I get to Kyo, ne? —Quasirandom (talk) 04:32, 23 April 2008 (UTC))

- Yes, that's why I'm wondering if I should just rip the audio and make it available for you to download so you'll have for the rest (and the main) :P Collectonian (talk) 04:34, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Upcoming edits
Just as a heads up, over the next week or so, I plan to make this article obey the guidelines of WP:SS and ensure all the information in her entry in the list of characters is also here. And, along the way, I'll both source everything on the page I can, and edit the sections to more closely conform to the style guidelines for character articles. And if I can, add more to the Development and Reception sections. (How's that for ambition?) —Quasirandom (talk) 14:30, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Finished the WP:SS reconciliation and most of the sourcing, though I've still got stray edits to make. But given more or less complete sourcing and most of the sections asked for by the style guidelines, I believe this is now a B-class article. —Quasirandom (talk) 03:15, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
