Togdheer (Somali: Togdheer) is an administrative region of the de facto independent republic Somaliland. Its capital is Burco (Burao). It is bordered by Ethiopia and the Somaliland regions of Woqooyi Galbeed, Sanaag and Sool. Togdheer is one of the 6 regions of the self-proclaimed Republic of Somaliland (the territory of the former British Somaliland). The region's name is derived from the Togdheer River. Currently the Regional Chairman is Abdi Hussen Dheere and the Vice Chairman is Guled Dahir Samatar.

[edit] Territorial dispute with Puntland

The government of the autonmous state of Puntland claims southeastern Togdheer region as its territory, and calls this area, centered around the town of Buuhoodle, the "Ayn" region of Puntland.[1]
