  • Toei (disambiguation)Toei - Disambiguation is superfluous, I believe is the correct term. In other words, its uneeded because Toei redirects to the disambiguation page. ~I'm anonymous:
  • But only because it was changed within the last 24 hours from pointing to Toei Company, which is probably still the primary topic. Discussion would be needed to demonstrate that Toei Company is not the primary topic before Toei is changed to redirect elsewhere (or be replaced by the disambig. page). --Stemonitis 08:52, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. Why does Toei Company have the redirect when "Toei" should be the title for both Toei Company and Toei Animation? IMO, it should be the title of the disambiguation page, no less. ~I'm anonymous
I am not sure how one would accomplish that. Could you provide an example of a prior demonstration of such kind? —Tokek 14:28, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, Toei Animation is tagged for merging with Toei Company anyway, so perhaps that should be dealt with first. --Stemonitis 14:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Let's see how that works out then. ~I'm anonymous
I don't think the proposal for merging Toei Animation and Toei Company has much relevance with regard to the discussion of Toei and Toei (disambiguation), however I have added my comment on the merge proposal by following the "(discuss)" link provided by the merge tag. Apparently no one has cared to provide reasoning for the merge proposal. —Tokek 02:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
I have removed the merge tag from Toei Animation as explained in Talk:Toei Animation. —Tokek 03:12, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Are Toei Company and Toei Animation not the same company (including one being a subdivision of the other)? In that case, it would be reasonable to merge them; neither article is very long. Following that, the merged article would be the primary meaning of "Toei", meaning that Toei should redirect there (or that the article should be moved to Toei). --Stemonitis 06:15, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Toei Co., Ltd. and Toei Animation Co., Ltd. are not the same company. (Hence the different names.) But for the sake of the rest of your argument, let's temporarily suppose they are. Why would the merged article become the primary meaning for "Toei," and why should Toei redirect to it? The words 都営 (toei) and 東栄 (tōei) are not even derived from the word 東映 (tōei). —Tokek 23:42, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
The spelling in Japanese is not important, and nor is etymology. All that matters is what the average user expects to find when he/she types in "Toei". If it's the Toei Company (perhaps including Toei Animation), then that should be what the user sees, which would mean from our perspective having a redirect from Toei to Toei Company. --Stemonitis 14:53, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I'm glad you clarified what you meant by "primary topic." I merely wanted to stress the lack of etymological relationships, not spelling differences. You sound uncertain whether Toei Company is the primary topic. If so, I don't know why you are against Toei redirecting to a disambiguation page. It seems like the Toei Company / Toei Animation confusion is also persisting solely caused by the previous merge tags (despite the fact that the tag adder did not care to explain anything). —Tokek 02:13, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Here are the two major companies:

  • Toei the transportation authority
    • founded in 1911, employs 7,484
    • Owns several bus and train lines.
    • Not sure what the statistics are, but many people ride it every day.
  • Toei the film production company
    • 311 employees, founded in 1949

By the scale, I can see how one might think the transportation authority would be the "primary topic." In this case, the geographic article is Tōei, Aichi. Often times the geographical article is considered the "primary topic." So there are many ways to look at this situation. While I don't think there are precise mathematical solutions to these types of cases, I think I've shown enough that redirecting to the disambiguation page is a reasonable compromise. Well, actually I think a disambiguation page should be the default decision unless someone can explain otherwise, not the other way around. —Tokek 13:44, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
